DH proud of his purchase...
Good lord, DH just came home with a leg of lamb. I really, really don't like lamb but I know Mr. Spain here has been craving real Spanish food - not the dirty North American crud his wife invents for him to eat. So, now I've got a leg of something I don't like to eat in the fridge to cook this afternoon and a DH who is all proud because he got it on sale. ("9 euros! The lady told me it was really cheap!")
...I'm buying scallops next time I'm in the grocery store.
Do your respective DHs do silly things like this and then get all proud of the "bargain" they found?
Re: DH proud of his purchase...
I hear you...
You know what was part of my Christmas present this year?
And he was dead chuffed with himself... though he couldn't get the arm to wave even with a battery put in......
You dont like lamb
I love it. I am so jealous. In the north, you guys have the best meat. Is it lechal? If it is lechal, it doesnt have a strong flavor.
My DH actually likes American food more than me.
I like lamb alright but it's not something I would set out to make myself. I reserve that for fancy restaurants and the ILs. Ha! Yeah, my H wishes I would make cocido, but I'm so not a fan so that never happens unless he decides to get busy in the kitchen himself.
I think I'm lucky though that DH likes pretty much all kinds of food and tends to love the food I make. I give the credit to the crock pot lately though because it really does all the work. I just throw some ingredients in and let it simmer all day long. NOM! Anyway, I'm the picky one in our relationship and I'm not a fan of most Spanish food so it's a good thing one of us is food adventurous!
ETA: Irish, that is hilarious. Why did he think that was a good idea?
I hate cocido with a passion. I want to know who came up with that recipe.
Where did you pick up your crock pot? I never cooked with one. Do you brown the meat before putting it in? Do you feel okay leaving it on when you leave the house?
Someone starving in the mountains probably came up with cocido. It seemed like a good idea at the time!
Where else would I get a crock pot? El Corte Ingl?s! They only have everything you could ever need and more. I don't usually brown the meat first unless it's ground beef which for some reason I brown first. If I had to do that with all the meat I'd feel like there's no point in even using the crock pot because what I love about it is its simplicity.
I feel completely fine leaving it on when I leave the house. I just set it on low, go about my day and when I get home the house smells like food. It's wonderful. I do make a point to pull it out on the counter away from the wall or anything else, but I don't think it's dangerous.
This is wonderful. I am so sorry!!!

This reminds me of an ad that was on TV here last year with two of those cats playing rock paper scissors:
I've never been a lamb fan, mom always used to buy one from a local farm when I was a kid. I can't believe you think we have the best meat up here - I miss American meat! I think the local meat just isn't that good. Although, the local butcher gave GMIL fillet from his own cows for Christmas and it was out of this world. My brother has animals and we were spoiled back home.
I don't know if it's lechal, it probably is because it's so darn small. DH just woke up and goes: "That's too much food for today!" I just can't win. Next time he's cooking the Spanish specialty.
That's what I told DH when we were at the supermarket together: "This lamb is expensive and your mom makes it better than I ever will so let's just not get it." He agreed, but went to the super last night and thought it was a good idea. Bwah. I'm having scallops for dinner!!!
...it tasted really good.
I used this recipe: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/em eril-lagasse/rosemary-and-garlic-roast-leg-of-lamb-recipe/index.html and instead of lemon, I mashed olive oil with garlic in the mortar. Mmmmmm.
