Re: OL Tuesday

  • Sara- I am so so sorry to hear that and will keep you and your family in my thoughts!

Julie- I usually just do almond milk, a banana and then spinach.  Sometimes I will add in other fruit or flavors depending on the mood and how many calories I want.  Sometimes I add in peanut butter and coffee, sometimes I add in pumpkin and spices.  I really just make smoothies/shakes I already like and add a few handfuls of spinach.

  • Dear Sara and Leslie,

I'm too busy to Nest this morning but my T&Ps are with you -- please know that all of us are waiting anxiously to rejoice with you and are looking forward to that day.  I pray that that day will be soon.

    *hugs*

Dear OBLF Nesties, It's ON!!  :)

  • Dear Leslie,

I agree with everyone... good luck today!  Smile

  • Ladies, thanks again for all the support.  It is truly appreciated.

Now a random question....  We have a membership to Sams through DH's job so it is free to us.  But several of my girlfriends are Costco members and love it.  Based on their raves, it seems like Costco has more of a selection on things than Sams does.

If you have been a shopper/member of both, do you have any advice?  Do you think one is superior to the other?

I know it sounds cheap, but I don't want to pay the $55 for a Costco membership unless I can get some "benefit" advice.

  • I have been to both and personally found that Costco had a better selection of product, specifically organic produce than Sams did.

Thanks, Bobbileigh!  I will just do some by trial and error.  When you say coffee, you mean a cup already brewed, right?  I just want to make sure.

  • My Boss just emailed me my 2011 goals.  Yes, 2011.   For use on our self appraisal and management review that is due on Friday.

While I don't have any issues with them, it kind of pisses me off that we didn't receive these last year at this time.

How can one be fairly judged on something they were not aware was a goal?

I am SO out of here after March.

I hope there is a question on your review that says something like: "If you didn't meet your goal, what is something that Company can do to help you reach it next time?"

Then you can answer:  Identify my yearly goals prior to the completion of the year.

I hate when they pull stuff like that.  Are you leaving no matter what, even if you don't have another job lined up?

This may have been covered during the previous two weeks but has there been anything on your hypothetical/possible change?

  • Julie, I just use instant coffee, so I'll just throw a pack of that in there.  The vitamix and juicer take up too much room I cant make the space for a coffee maker too so I go the easier route for coffee.

Tiffany, that is ridiculous!  I would be livid if proper expectations were not set up front, and then if for some reason you weren't meeting them it wasnt brought to your attention with enough time to make the necessary changes.  I really hope they give you an exit interview so you can openly speak your mind when that time comes.

  • Sara - Haha!  They know better than to ask that question.

Jaymi - No, I won't leave until I get something else.   However, our annual bonuses from a record year arrive in March.  It makes it much less difficult to make a career path change after it is safely in the bank.

Julie - Hypothetical situation is dead.   I wouldn't be interested even if the did call me at this point.

Bobbileigh - There will definitely not be an exit interview, or else I would absolutely speak my mind.

  • Today is going by excruciatingly slow.

I've been trying to schedule an appointment with a "new" doctor and they do not answer their phones or return messages.  I didn't have a great experience with them last time so I don't know why I think things will be different this time around.

While I have never participated in an exit interview, we do an employee satisfaction survey every year and I let them know what I think.  We do a lot of great things here but there are some things (and some people) who don't do much to help with the few problems that we have.

I'm curious how everyone feels about speaking your mind in an exit interview.  Not that one would necessarily be nasty...I think you would still be professional.  I feel you should be open but the general consensus over on the 9 to 5 board is against this because they would be contacted in the future and that would make you look bad.

Speaking of doctors, I've about had it with the vet that we take Sally to and the pharmacy that we get her medicines from.  Bill called the Wednesday before Christmas that we were out of her thyroid medicine; if she doesn't take it, she vomits a lot more and loses weight (she weighed 5.7 lbs the other day which is still quite a bit under her normal weight).  The vet called us back on the 27th, six days later and tells us that we need to bring her in so that they can check her levels and give us more medicine.  We bring her in.  "Ooooh, actually, we have to have her on the meds so that we can check her levels."  So they supposedly called the compounding pharmacy on Friday because they make it into the ear ointment (she chews around the pills in the pill pockets).  It is now Tuesday and we still don't have any meds for her.  I know the vet called them in because we called on Saturday and they said they did.  We have another appointment to read her levels this Friday morning and I'm going to cancel it because, again, we still don't have her meds.  Without this medicine, she could start sliding down hill just like Socks.  I'm so very frustrated with both of these places that I want to scream.  Ahhhhh!

  • I have a terrible headache, and I just want to go home and lie down.

I hate doctors.  I've pretty much decided I need a new lady doc... mine did some pre-TTC tests and never called me to let me know the results... and this was back in October.  I know I need to call them, but they said THEY would call ME, and I just don't really want to make that call from my desk, ya know?  It's just kind of private, and I don't really have anywhere private I can go.

About the exit interviews... it is my understanding that when a potential job calls a former job, they're only supposed to be able to ask if the person is hire-able again, not intricate details.  I was very unhappy at my previous job, and I was very open about it in my exit interview.  I talked about pretty much all of the problems I'd had there, even those that resulted in subpar performance from me, and then also talked about some things that didn't directly affect me, but that others who'd recently left told me that I thought needed to be communicated (hostile environment type issues).  On the other hand, I was pretty open with my current company about why I wanted to leave, so if they'd called the old place and the old place had badmouthed me, my new place would have had some warning that I was unhappy there and that there was tension.

There is always a huge part of you that wants to just tell them off, but I know during mine I didn't say anything. I never know when I'm going to have to work or deal with any of them again or when I might need to come back at some point. In my 4 1/2 years at my company I'm suprised by the amount of people who came back asking for their jobs back.

  • Tiffany, Have you thought about requesting one through hr?

Jaymi, I have always done them, been very honest, and still gotten fantastic references.  I think its the manner in how you provide the feedback, but the first company I in so many words told them there was no room for advancement, and at the second told them that I no longer felt like a person but a number that didnt matter.  My manager and director gave me the most glowing reviews even after that information.  All of mine have also always been done with either a VP or above in my department or Director or higher in HR, basically someone who is not directly responsible for my review and would handle the information in a professional manner.

  • imagebobbileighb:

Tiffany, Have you thought about requesting one through hr?

Nah.   If I leave I will not be replaced, so it wouldn't do much good.

  • Julie- No wonder you are frustrated.  That is ridic.  We are almost at 2 weeks since you initially called.  If you like the vet but just not the pharmacy, can you request they send the prescription elsewhere?

After this last summer I decided to find a different lady doc by that time next year.  The front office lady is always rude; I told her several times that my last name had changed, it was also on my license and on my insurance card.  I went back in a few months later and she still hadn't changed it and when was talking to one of the nurses to get a prescription made, she said my maiden name and I said very nicely "My last name is XYZ.  I changed my last name last year."  She gave me this nasty look and snapped at the nurse my maiden name.  That was in 2010.

This year we had moved and I had informed them of this.  They send your test results to your home and I never received them and I did call but they had me leave a message-never returned my phone calls.  When I was in last month I told them that I never received my test results and I still do not have them.  It was a different lady working that day and she said "we don't have your new address, could you fill out new paperwork?"  Really?  You didn't get me telling you this last time as well as filling out the paperwork?  The front office kills me there.

So this "new place" is the place that was giving me a hard time about getting a refill on BC because they would not return my phone calls back in March or something because I planned on following my lady doctor there.  After that I decided to stay put and get a new doc.  I'm looking for a 2nd opinion on something and this is supposedly one of their specialty areas so I feel like I get to choose from the lesser of two evils.  If I don't hear back from them tomorrow, I'll either be contacting the only other place that I know about or my PCP to see if she can refer someone.

I know you don't want to call in front of everyone but maybe go outside or do it on your lunch break?  My step mom is a nurse and many moons ago there were two other nurses dealing with a patient.  Well both nurses thought the other nurse had called to let the patient know of their results and the patient was never informed.  By the time they realized their mistake, it was too late to offer treatment for what turned out to be cancer.

  • Hey all - in case you are wondering how the RE went today: http://thefordhouse.wordpress.com/

Re: exit interviews - I am always honest and have not had negative results from it. Well..I say that, but I was named in a lawsuit by my last employer whom I did a pretty nasty exit interview with. I think that had less to do with my exit interview and more to do with people who like to make things up and spread false rumors. All under the bridge now though, so whatever.

Finally a BLOG!!  I'm off to officially blogstalk you.  :)

Re: Exit interviews.  They can be done professionally.  I'm a huge believer in not burning bridges, no matter how awful the job/position was.

I bookmarked your blog too.  I love how you described the awkwardness, lmao.

I'm glad you found a doctor you like, and that all is good news so far!

Sounds like a lot of positives in one post! Glad it went to so well! Hope you have what you always wanted soon.

Awww, I love it!  Glad things are off to a great start.

  • Sara -- I'm so sorry that happened. Your family (and H) sounds awesome.

Leslie -- love the blog! I love the connection you made between the chapel and this doctor. That sounds exactly like something I would find comfort in.

Re: exit interviews. The companies I've worked for have always had a strict policy of never giving out any information about past employees other than just confirming the dates of employment. (Apparently to avoid any litigation if the previous employee gets a bad review, subsequently doesn't get the new job, and goes back after previous company for giving the bad review).

I don't like to burn bridges, and (at least at the large companies where I've worked) I know my feedback would go nowhere anyway. So, I tend to keep it simple and neutral. Once, though, the HR rep (who was young and new and unfamiliar with the position I'd held for years) asked me about the position and, upon hearing my pretty neutral description of the job, actually flat-out asked me why I hadn't quit years earlier. Indifferent That was funny.

Julie- No wonder you are frustrated.  That is ridic.  We are almost at 2 weeks since you initially called.  If you like the vet but just not the pharmacy, can you request they send the prescription elsewhere?

Sadly, no.  Since she was eating around the pills in the pill pockets, they said that they would have it compounded for us into an ear ointment but it had to be sent out to a compounding pharmacy, so it's not something the vet's office can do for us.  She also had to have her blood pressure medicine compounded into a tuna flavored liquid.  We did get it last night and we gave her a slight double dose both last night and this morning to try to get her used to it again.  I like the actual vet that we see but their office was recently bought by some national chain and the front desk has apparently had some turn over recently.  No matter what, I'm still frustrated with both places.  I called the vet yesterday afternoon and was put on hold so they could find him.  He couldn't talk to me right then so she was going to transfer me to his voicemail so that he could call me back.  Well, she put me through to their outgoing message and then it hung up on me.  This was after waiting ten minutes.  The vet has not called me back yet.
