Our cat (aptly named "Kitten") is 15 yrs old so we have a long and wonderful history together.
We went out of town the week after Christmas and have just returned a few days ago.
She is crying ALL. NIGHT. LONG.
Seriously - every 30 minutes she's meowing. Even when we wake up and start petting her she's still meowing while we pet her! She doesn't seem to be in any physical distress and she's not signaling a need for food or water.
The first night we were just home and thought she was just needing attention after our absence. Now on night 3 of this stuff we've got a serious problem.
We've loved her up one side and down the other trying to reassure her we're home for good and "fill her cup" so to speak.
This is not normal behavior for her at all. We go out of town 1-2 times a year and she's never done this before.
We HAVE to get some sleep.
We tried putting her out of our room last night but that lead to non-stop crying and scratching at the door.
I really don't want to put her in the mud room or the basement but we really do have to sleep.
Advice?
Suggestions?
Help please?!?!?!
Re: Need cat help please!!
Definitely get to the vet. Cats frequently don't show signs of illness so it wouldn't be surprising for something to be wrong and her to not really be showing it. Good luck!
Is she acting unusually during the day?
My Lunch Blog
Other than being willing to come out around the kids because she REALLY wants lovin?
She never lets the littlest one touch her and she actually sat still and purred while they BOTH loved her yesterday. I ran to get the camera.
Other than that?
Nope.
Totally normal.
She's got to be as exhausted as we are. She's 15 yrs old and usually sleeps a LOT. She's seriously up all night long now and is making several appearances during what's normally day time napping hours too.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
I'd also get her to the vet,e specially given her age. As others mentioned, cat's are naturally designed not to show illness because it gets you moved to the bottom of the pack in the wild. At her age, a vet visit just to confirm she's in good health absolutely can't hurt.
If that comes out all clear, I'd suggest the feliway and the rescue remedy also.
Sassy suffers from major separation anxiety when we go away. She is stuck to me like glue when I get back. However, she does not do more meowing when we come home, just wants to cuddle all the time.
I would probably bring your kitty to the vet just to make sure there is nothing developing.
