PW: OMG - 6 months from tomorrow... (npr)

...I will be turning 30. Surprise

Shock just set in! I can't breathe! Holy he|| I'm turning 30...

Now the real question: what do I do to celebrate?!

One of my besties from college was getting married at the beginning of June, and one of the others is getting married in October, so between those 2 huge expenses, I wasn't going to do anything at all. Now one of those is off the table, and maybe I can actually do something? But what?

My birthday is a major national holiday, btw, so it would make for some fun travel/hotel costs if we went anywhere!

  • Are you set on travel the actual weekend, or could you do the one before or after? Are you looking to celebrate with a bunch of people or just you and YH?

30 wasn't so bad by the way :o)  I thought it would be more painful than it was!

  • I've been thinking about my 30th (even though I have a few more years to go lol) and I want to travel somewhere I've never been.  Where is somewhere you've always wanted to go?
  • I agree. So far my thirties have been WAY better than my 20's. Happy 1/2 birthday!

  • Lol! Thanks all. I know it's blown way out of proportion, but it's still huge!

I have no idea what I want to do. My actual birthday falls smack in the middle of the week. If we were going to do a big trip (if we could afford it, le sigh), I could easily take the whole week off and leave the weekend before and return the weekend after. As it stands, I might be lucky if we can pull off a long weekend.

A few friends had asked me a month or two ago what the plan was to celebrate, and at the time I said probably nothing, since my friend's wedding was still on. I have no idea now if they would be interested in doing something with us or not. Worst case scenario, which would still be nice enough, would be just celebrating with H. Maybe a nice shore-area B&B would work? We've never done that.

As far as travel, he (and subsequently I have adopted this) really likes doing all-inclusive out-of-the-country deals. We went to the Dominican Republic for our honeymoon, which was phenomenal, but our finances are so not up to that again. Travel would have to stay within the US and probably within a reasonable driving distance.

ETA: Part of me wants to really do it up; go out to Atlantic City and stay in a cool hotel and party. Part of me would love a quiet weekend away with H. Our 3rd wedding anniversary will come up in the beginning of May, though, so perhaps we can see about swinging a quiet B&B weekend for that? Hmm....so many choices!!!

And then what to do for H's 30th, which will be in Nov? Good lord, we have too many big birthdays + friend's wedding this year!! Lol!

  • Personally, I would rather do something more "expensive" for my anniversary and low-key it for my birthday  ( I have 5 yrs until 30, so I have awhile to think about it :D).

ie) For birthday, I would just invite a bunch of people over, have a good size BBQ, jello shots (if you're into that kind of thing), if you have an out door area (depending is you have a home/apartment) you can have out door games, volleyball, badminton etc. (you can get a net and accessories for pretty cheap) and of course you have to have CAKE lots and lots of CAKE. :D

You could even do it the weekend before/after the holiday so friends/family won't have conflicts if they have already made plans for the holiday. What I've done in the past for H's and my birthdays is we'll have a party on the weekend and just the two of us will go out to dinner on our actual birthday and maybe a movie (birthday person picks, of course!)

Neither of these things are very exciting though....

I'm sure we'll do something huge for the next milestone anniversary, but 3 years just kind of seems like a low-key anniversary, lol. We've already been together for 11 1/2 years, so getting married was just kind of a technicality at that point! LOL! We like to go out to a nice restaurant for our anniversaries, and I'm sure we would this year too if we don't come up with anything else.

Last year I had a "big" BBQ at my house the weekend of my birthday. It wasn't so much meant as a birthday party, though, as a way to get people together for the holiday and to meet Zoey (we'd brought her home the weekend before). I don't really feel like going that route again this year, but it's a great suggestion for the run-of-the-mill b-days to come!

Dinner and a movie works well for his birthday, but mine being on a holiday and all, I don't really like going to a restaurant or the movies; it's just one of those days you go out and do something different (like see bright lights exploding in the sky, hehehe).

I have to figure out if we'll go somewhere soon though. Everything is bound to be fully booked up before long!
