Puppies first grooming

Is there anything different I should do for their first grooming?  They need to have their hair cut so I can't just have them bathed and brushed.    The plan was to leave them at the groomers all day, but it seems awful long for them.

  • We just switched groomers so we met with the groomer and toured her facility and told her our expectations and how we liked the dogs groomed.  Thankfully someone her mentioned that we needed to make sure they weren't placed under a dryer to dry (thankfully she hand dries and has no automatic dryer).

You don't have to do a thing other than make sure you wishes are known (bath, trim and nails or whatever you want done).  I agree leaving them all day seems like a long time, we try and pick up within the hour because grooming seems to stress my bunch.

    Good luck!

  • Maybe I should also ask the question, How do you pick a groomer?

the one place only does pickup and drop offs first thing in the morning and then in the evening.

That would bother me, but I am really weird about this sort of thing.  I want to be able to walk in on my groomer.  Only being able to drop off and pick up makes me uncomfortable.

I used word of mouth and personal interviews.  Our old groomer was fabulous but unless you were on a regular schedule getting into her was always a chore.  I ask about certifications and experience..but in the end I put a lot of faith in word of mouth.

  • At our groomed, it's practically an all day affair. She told me she works on puppies a little bit at a time so they don't get stressed out. She also runs a daycare, so the dogs are allowed to play with each other while they are waiting for the next stage of their grooming. My dogs come home exhausted, like they spent the whole day at daycare.
