Wow, it's awesome being a Californian! Vent

I am a CA resident, H is not. CA is a community property state, H's state is not. We are Married Filing Jointly for Federal, and Married Filing Single for State. California allows this if your spouse is active duty military in a non cp state. Easy, right? No. It's freaking so complicated and the "helpful" forms and "helpful" chats are not so helpful. I have no doubt I'll figure it out and manage, but sweet goodness. There are enough service members in this state who have married residents that you'd think they would put together a more clear step by step than what they have. And I have to hand write my return. Crying

I just want to make sure I pay my use tax for goodness sake! I want state parks and state schools to get their money from my Amazon purchases!

I've seen a lot of military surprise homecomings. It wouldn't work on me. I always have my back to the corner and my face to the door. Looking for terrorists, criminals, various other threats, and husbands.

There is, but from their website I wonder if mine is too complicated with my MFJ vs. MFS. And I have fears about their wait times with my job.

  • Egads. That really sounds like a pain. Personally I wasn't even able to get a good clear answer on our vehicle registrations after we moved out of state. I can't imagine how much worse taxes must be. I'm actually kind of dreading the tax class I'm taking this spring, and it only covers Federal!

You'd be surprised at what they can manage at the tax centers on base...  I'd give them a try...  (some posts allow you to make appointments, too)

  • I did my own last year for the first time and it didn't go well. I ended up paying in $1,500 so I'm the last person to help you.

But I will give you a HUGE *HUG*

  • Our base does not allow appointments, but I will see if they can help. I'll do our federal and H's state myself, and take mine in.

I know we won't owe at least!

  • I hate living in CA. Absolutely abhor it. I am willing to go to Korea to get out of here. I have been having battles with the DMV because my vehicle is registered here but I am a resident of another state. I want to throat punch whoever decided automated customer service was the way to go.

The DMV is pretty bad, but I love CA! The community colleges are unmatched, my public university was fantastic and my tuition well subsidized, the state parks are amazing, and...I'm having a no one can talk 'bout my mama but me moment. Lol. Hope you guys get your PCS!

LOL I get the same way about my home state. But I'm up in NorCal and it is like a completely different state than where you are!

What part? You've got all the good state parks (I grew up part of the time in the Bay Area).

An hour north of Sac. We don't live in the city because MH doesn't want the commute. There are a lot of places to go, we used to travel a lot. I just don't like this area I live in (shady characters) and I'm not used to it being so difficult to do simple tasks (renew my vehicle registration and the COST).
