PIP :-)

My little Lulu Bean!

After long thought out process of "do I really want a puppy" I just couldn't say no :-) I brought her home on 12/22 and on the 26th we headed to the vet and found out we were going to battle parvo. I got to go pick her up yesterday afternoon!! She lost 20% of her body weight so she's on at least 2 weeks of rest and house arrest to make sure she's back to her happy healthy self.

Re: PIP :-)

  • Pardon me while I compose myself after melting into a big puddle of GOO.  She is adorable!!

    What's her story?  Breed?

    She is precious!!

  • Her eyes are just gorgeous!!  Such a cutie! I hope she's on the mend and feeling better soon!

  • She's mostly lab? I swear some days she looks a little pittie. Her and her brother (who was adopted a week after her by a guy my bf works with) came up here from Cali with a family and they ditched them because a move and two puppies and kids were just too much. They were at the shelter for 3 weeks before I got her. She's super smart and great on the leash already, we are having jumping up on people issues but as soon as she's off house arrest and able to be with other dogs I will sign her up for puppy classes so we can take care of that. She's also amazing with my 3 1/2 yo daughter and is great with my 2 cats.
  • She's just beautiful! Thank you for rescuing her!

My trainer gave us a trick to help with the jumping. Tether her to a piece of furniture or door knob. Approach her in a variety of manners: quickly, quiet, excited talking, carrying things, etc. As soon as she jumps up, turn your back, take a few steps, and ignore her for about 30 seconds. Try it again, and praise her when she sits. We did this with Bently for about 5-10 minutes a day (we *always* ended with him sitting nicely), and it made a huge difference.

Maybe this is something you can do with her while she's under house arrest. The sooner you stop that habit, the better. We have a mostly-lab too, and we didn't work on that as soon as we should have, and it's a bit tougher to convince him jumping to look at a person in the eye isn't polite.
