Moms -- Help me feed my kid.

So Ella is 11 months old (eek!). She eats a fair amount of solids, but her primary nutrition is still form breastmilk. Once we introduced a cup of milk she refused the bottle. This means she only gets about 5-8oz of pumped milk a day. Otherwise, I feed her 3-4 times a day (morning, pickup, bedtime).

Well, I have to have a test done and I cannot nurse for 3 days after. I do not have a huge "stash" of breastmilk and I pump just what she needs. I can pump a little extra (I don't know when the test is yet), but I know at this point there is no reason to introduce formula for the first time and whole milk is fine. She has tried whole milk and had no reaction. My kid is a big kid, but has never been a huge eater. Clearly my milk is full-fat.

So, right now this is her schedule:

Wake-up: Nurse

Breakfast: Jar baby food (usually fruit), breatmilk in cup (4oz or so)

Lunch: 2 Jars babyfood, breastmilk in cup (2oz), finger food (today it was chicken)

Snack: Yogurt, breastmilk in cup (maybe another 2 oz)

Pick-up: Nurse

Dinner: Jar baby food, whatever we are having, whole milk

Bedtime: Nurse

So, I'm thinking that depending what I pump, we'll offer a sippy cup when she normally nurses. At night, DH can try and give her a bottle -- but I know she's just going to be p!$$ed. What else should I add in/substitute? I'm thinking at least one more yogurt a day? How does this compare to what your kid is eating.

I know I'm overthinking this and that she won't let herself starve. My alternate plan is just to send her to her grandmas' for the three days! I just hope the 3 days are work days -- the weekend will kill me!

Re: Moms -- Help me feed my kid.

  • Ella eats more than Eli and he is a big kid too. I would give whatever you can of breast milk in a cup when she would nurse but then give her just whole milk with her meals and snacks. I would try yogurt and cheese for some calcium but honestly if its just 3 days she doesn't really need the excess calcium with such a short period of time. Yes she will be mad when you refuse to nurse her but it won't kill her and she will most likely go back to nursing just fine after the 3 days are up.

  • Oh my goodness... Wyatt eats way more than that, I swear this kid is going to eat me out of house and home. I have been totally surprised by his appetite.

Lately Wyatt's food schedule has been like this:

Morning: 10 minute nurse before breakfast

Breakfast: Banana, handful of grapes or other fruit, 2 scrambled eggs with cheese and veggis, water in a cup. (yes, he eats the whole thing)

Snack: Yogurt or fruit cup and a short nurse before naptime

Lunch: Full PB&J sandwich cut up or pasta with meat and sauce or 1.5 cups soup, full carton of either blueberries, blackberries or 5-8 strawberries. Cup of water.

Dinner: Whatever we're eating, usually he doesn't eat as much for dinner as the rest of the day, depending on what we have. If he likes it he'll usually eat a full cup.

Bedtime: sometimes a granola bar or rice snack & short nurse before bed.
