LA RIOTS

I wanted an insight from the actual los angeles ppl. Do you think this will be problem here post election? Do you think it depends on the candidate who wins?

I hope not, I will be sad if my candidate does not win and will go into a world of disbeleif and confusion. I'm really scared for the whole thing, but we move through change from racism and women's rights, really badly sometimes.

Just wanted to see what LA thought.

Re: LA RIOTS

  • I doubt riots but there are really some close minded morons in middle america that concern me. The curious george incident was outta control so now I'm not sure what to expect. People are sick, sick, sick...

  • It's going to be what's it's going to be. Cast your vote and hope for the best, either way.

Although I do think it will be interesting to see how things transpire after the new president is announced.

  • I'm not sure that rioting will be the reaction to the election outcomes.  Protests, marches...but I don't think that we will have to go thru riots.  I hope and pray we don't.

  • I think there is a strong possibility of this regardless of who wins, it will be celebratory (think lakers winning the...series or whatever it is called for basketball) or in protest with the mantra that the only reason he lost is because he's black and everyone else is racist.  I hope Im wrong...

  • this is going to sound like I'm asking to be flamed, but this is why there hasn't yet been a viable non-white candidate for president and I don't think the country is ready to handle that even now.

Let me amend that: I don't think the country is ready for a non-white president with such extreme views that will polarize much of the country. I've always thought that if we were to elect a woman or a minority, that person would have to be mostly conservative, to appeal to a broader spectrum. The best of both worlds really.

But I doubt there will be riots. it's not like a crowd of angry people from downtown LA are going to storm Manhattan Beach and loot the Ann Taylor if Obama loses. And conversely, if Heaven forbid he wins, then all those folks will just flip over thier own cars, Lakers' celebration-style, and Ann Taylor can breathe a sigh of relief.

  • WOW. What a comment. I believe the opposite. I'm not here to blast my political views, so all I'm going to say to your comment is WOW.....

  • RE: 2Bbush comments.-

I understand why you say WOW pp but there's something to be said about CA views vs other parts of the nation.  There are states where the N-word is still used and accepted as description of African-Americans.  There are places where Jews are seen as aliens...since there's nothing more than uber-conservative Christian churches.  There are people who would rather die that see Obama elected due to the color of his skin.

That's the truth of it.  While I hope the hatred is in the minority, it does exist and we don't really know how deep it runs.

There's also a lot of hatred being thrown in the other direction at McCain and Palin.  The effigy of Palin in WHo is a great example.

While I don't think I can say that saying the country is not ready for a Black or African-American president or for a woman president, I can say that the hatred in our country seems to be out of control.  We all look back at the civil rights movements and shrug at the ignorance.  But we are seeing some of the same things today.  I heard a clip on the news this morning that a person wearing a No on 8 button was hit with a Yes on 8 sign.  This happened in Torrance.  (I don't know the details but there really isn't an excuse for those actions.)

I just hope the nation can take a collective deep breath, re-center ourselves, and concentrate on what can be done to strengthen our nation REGARDLESS of who is elected.

     (sorry for being long-winded!)

  • I totally agree with you, but I do believe that the old thought that america is not ready needs to be thrown away. That is like saying we should just stay still forever.

  • I agree...the idea that there are some people in the nation not ready for growth should not stop us from growing.  But I also think that we've got to be aware that there may be growing pains. We may see outbreaks of ridiculous violence and hatred.  It's a shame but it shouldn't keep us from advancing as a nation.  Regardless who's elected, we are going to witness history for our nation.  It's exciting but it's also quite scary to think that there are people with such narrow minded views that they oppose Obama for being Black and Palin for being a woman.  These same people can't discuss the politics of it all...rather they revert to name calling based on gender and race.

  • But I doubt there will be riots.

For what it's worth, this is the only part your asinine post that I agree with. ??
