Organizing EVERYTHING in one bedroom

Hi everyone,

I normally post on TB but I have a question for the organization queens. I am currently living in my mom's house and everything I own is in my bedroom. I also do direct sales so I have all of my inventory, catalogs, samples, etc in there as well along with all of my kids dirty laundry. I'm pretty scattered brained and I am always loosing things even when I call myself putting things away. Does anyone have any ideas on where to start?

Oh yea I don't have a real closet I have one of the garment racks that can zip up. And I don't have a ton of money to spend on plastic bins.

I hope someone has something I'm growing tired of my tornado ravaged room. TIA!!!

Re: Organizing EVERYTHING in one bedroom

  • Command hooks (walmart, target, home depot) are my favorite organization tool and they're pretty cheap.  I also love laundry baskets.  Get a laundry basket fro your dirty clothes, one for all of your direct sales stuff (it won't be the more organized dumped in a basket but at least it will all be contained together), 1 or 2 for toys.  Look at what you own and decide what you can do without and get rid of it.  Make use of under the bed storage.  Depending on how much you're willing to spend, you could get 1 or more of those Sterilite drawer sets (I use one in my twins room for things like socks, onesies, and other thing I don't keep in their regular chest).  Take advantage of any verticle space and any hidden space.  GL.
  • I use those freezer ziploc bags to keep some of my things organized (things like chargers for the cell phones, camera, etc). and stick that in the drawer  Maybe you can do that with some of your work items?
  • Since money is an issue, I would sign up for my local Freecycle and see what organizing tools I can find.  Maybe some pieces of furniture, storage tubs, baskets, etc.

Also, if you haven't already, lift your bed frame to gain a little bit of storage space (and then keep an eye out on Craig's List/Freecycle for bins that will fit under there so it doesn't become a bottomless pit!).

Go through your things and make sure you're only keeping what you need or really love; get rid of any clutter that you can.  It's easier to keep smaller quantities of stuff organized.

  • Look for plastic bins at goodwill. I see them almost every time I go in. I got 15 container store plastic shoe boxes for $6. I use them to organize small office stuff on a shoe rack inside an armoire.

Anything that you don't use daily, try to store under the bed. Or use an under the bed strorage box as a drawer that you can pull out easily.

Use tall skinny laundry baskets for dirty clothes so they'll take up less floor space.
