Sherlock has urinary issues

I am so upset and so worried about my baby. He's been going to the litter box every few minutes and straining for nothing to come out. I found pee and blood in his bed this morning. The vet at the hospital last night said to take him to our vet today, I can't wait until they open in an hour. I'm freaking out, my poor boy! He's in pain :(

He got one normal pee out all night and a lot of little ones (as he's been doing for about 14 hours now).

I guess I'm mostly upset because the people at the vet hospital didn't do anything because his bladder was too small to get a sample, and the real vet didn't come to the conclusion of a urinary issue and they were closed by the time I did.

I just want someone who knows what they're doing to help my little boy!

Re: Sherlock has urinary issues

  • You need to get him to a vet ASAP- blockages in males are a true emergency
  • They ruled out a blockage since he has been able to urinate so it's either crystals or an infection. He's at the third vet in 12 hours now and they are keeping him until they can get a urinalysis.

    Either way, it's scary.

  • T&Ps for you and Sherlock! Poor boy! I really hope it turns out to be something easily solvable (an infection can be cleared up with meds).

I'm having anxiety about Zoey today, too, so I know how you feel!

Hugs! I hope you have an answer (better than not knowing) and he's feeling better soon!

  • T & P's for you and Sherlock! I know you love that little guy so much! He has such great pet parents that want to (obviously) take amazing care of him!
  • Aw, I hope they fix him up soon! Can they give him fluids subcutaneously so that his bladder fills?

  • Thanks everyone. I've been freaking out over this. I can't wait to pick him up after work. It's hard to focus on anything else!

That's what they're going to do. Hopefully he'll hold it in long enough for them to get a sample. Poor little bug :(

  • It's taken us some trial and error over the years to find vets we trust.  And it is frustrating when you know something is wrong and they won't fix it.

It makes me mad for you that they sent him home last night, that should not have happened without looking into the urinary issue further.

  • I agree, especially after spending $300 last night between the two visits all for nothing to be resolved.

He seems to be in good hands now. They got a urine sample and sent it off. We should have results tomorrow. He's on antibiotics and a urethral relaxer and the doctor said he's in a much better mood and much more comfortable.

I pick him up when I get off work and the doctor said that we will be equipped to treat him from home whether it's an infection or crystals and she said its probably one of those two. She did an X-ray today too to rule out stones.

I just can't wait to get him home and comfy!
