Hi Ladies,
I posted on here a while ago about suggestions for areas to live and was completely overwhelmed by all the options that were suggested since I have absolutely no clue where anything is. I'm still trying to get everything narrowed down, but am pretty sure I will be moving before the next school year starts.
Currently, I'm looking for school districts to apply to. Are there any teachers on here that can give me some pointers on how applying works down there? I've been teaching for 7 years and have taught grades 3-5.
Re: teachers
Hi there! I used to post on here pretty regularly, but now I mostly just lurk...I tried to go back and find your original post to see what the others girls suggested. I was in school when I applied, so I attended a teacher job fair. I interviewed with several counties and basically got hired on the spot by a county. Once a county "hires" you, then you are guaranteed a job in the county and go go online and apply for specific jobs at specific schools. I believe that if you don't attend a job fair, you still have to go through the process of being hired by the county first before applying for specific jobs.
Currently, Atlanta Public Schools (APS) is in the middle of a huge cheating scandal. Clayton County lost their accreditation a few years ago and I think just recently got it back. DeKalb County is under investigation for poor practice at the county office, is closing schools each each, and lucky that APS got caught cheating first.
Are you moving here solely for your job? Are you married? Is DH getting transferred? Are you interested in private schools? What area would you be living in? All these questions would change what I would tell you about where to apply. If you can provide some more info, I'll be happy to help as I can.
