I managed to drop my Kindle 3 yesterday while sitting (2 feet to the ground, no more!) and it was in the hard protective case. It's now completely frozen and no number of hard resets have unfrozen it. It's fully charged, so not the battery either. The power slide still lights up to green when I try to turn it on or reset it, so it's definitely still working, it just doesn't seem to be connecting to the screen any longer.
I am two months out of my warranty and they are going to charge me $65 to replace it. I don't think I'm going to pay it and am just going back to hard copy.
Has anyone had a similar problem they managed to fix? I know I'm stretching here, but I'm pretty much ready to give anything a try...
Re: Kindle frozen (out of warranty)
I'd call Amazon and see if you get a different rep that's willing to replace it at no cost.
I know several people who've damaged their Kindles (kids jumping on them, house fire, etc) and Amazon has replaced them out of warranty.
Their newest Kindle is $79 so it looks like the rep is going to give you a $10 discount?
oh! The Amex idea is great!
Thank you!
Lol, that's not much but I guess it is 12-13%. But, for $10 more I'd buy a new one.
Agreed! This worked for me as well. Once it froze because of low battery, but DH and I still don't know(and don't much care anymore) why the d*mn thing froze the second time. I had to hold the reset button for a good while, but it did finally restart. Dunno if it'll help you, but I've heard restarting the Kindle from the menu option from time to time helps if yours freezes occasionally. I haven't tried it, myself.
