Bias strip cutting tip from sew daily...

Just thought I would share.  http://www.sewdaily.com/blogs/sewdaily/archive/2012/01/04/my-favorite-trick-for-cutting-bias-strips.aspx

All of the folding seems a bit much to me, but it does seem like it would make quick work of what can be a tedious task.

  • So, wait!  When finished you have a whole bunch of bias that have to be sewn together?  No way! No The tube and cut is much easier and only one seam to stitch!

    Am I missing something?

I have never heard of this - so i just HAD to google :)

I found this link http://www.aestheticnest.com/2011/11/sewing-how-to-make-bias-tube-tape.html but it has multiple seams.  Still SOO easy.  OMG - how did I not know this!

You say you only have one seam to stitch - can you share??

  • I don't know if this counts as "one seam" but I've tried it this way and the way that you posted, MyColony, and this way is much easier to me. I always got confused about which way my triangles were supposed to go together with the other way.

I tried the tube cut before and thought that cutting it was kind of a pita, but pretty cool.   I don't mind joining strips though, and thought someone might like this tip.

    That's it!
Although I like the you-tube vid even more because it uses one (larger) square to start.

When using the smaller yardage and joining 2 triangles (for small projects such as pillows, etc), it can get a little weird making the tube, but (I love this part) with one yard of 36' wide fabric, you can yield approximately 24 yards of 1-1/2 inch continuous bias using this method!

Go ahead!  Try it; I dare ya!

I will take your dare!  :)  I hardly ever need THAT much of one print of binding - but I am gonna do it!!
