Good cat pee smell solution

Hi ladies,

I don't normally post here, but I lurk a lot. I just wanted to share this link:

http://odors.getridofthings.com/get-rid-of-cat-urine.htm

it's got a lot of really good solutions about how to get the cat pee smell out of things. I came home from visiting my parents over the holidays to multiple things peed on in retaliation of my absence. These in particular were super helpful and got the smell out:

Home Remedy for cat urine smell. This is a great recipe for removing cat urine odor from carpet. Start by blotting up as much of the urine as possible with old rags or paper towels. Next mix 3 parts water with one part vinegar and saturate the spot.Dry thoroughly using the same method mentioned above. Once dry, sprinkle the area with Baking Soda. Next mix ? cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide solution with one tsp. dish detergent and sprinkle over the Baking Soda. Try this first on a small inconspicuous area of the carpet to make sure the hydrogen peroxide won't discolor your carpet. Next, use your fingers or an old brush to work the Baking Soda in. I've used an old hairbrush with little bits of plastic over the tips with good results. Allow this to dry and vacuum it up. If there's still a slight odor when done, lather, rinse and repeat.

Remove cat urine odor from laundry. Use this method on your clothing, bedding, rugs or anything you think you can stuff in the washer (not including your cat). Simply add ? cup apple cider vinegar along with your normal laundry detergent, start the washer and VOILA!

I know a bunch of girls have posted lately about their kitties going all over the house so I hope that helps you out too!

  • Do you think this would work for dog urine as well? Say on a chair? Our Jasper decided to repeatedly mark one of our chairs when we first brought him home. What if it's an older spot?

I'm not sure. I have a dog too and his urine has never smelled enough that resolve couldn't get it out. This last time the entire apartment smelled from one cat spot in particular, I did this twice and now it doesn't smell at all now. Considering cat urine is much stronger I'd say it probably would on dog urine too.

  • I'll try it and let you/everyone know! We were going to have it professionally cleaned (It's actually H's mom's chair and we will be returning it) but this would be great! It would save us a lot of money!

I'm not sure about on furniture, but I've tried this before and it worked like a charm on dog pee in our carpet.  They were older spots, I'd tried so.many.different things on them (nature's miracle, that woolite spray, resolve, many runs with the steam cleaner, etc.), this was the one thing that worked.  So... 2x out of three questions answered.  :)
