I got back home yesterday after our week away for Hogmanay and am heading to work shortly. It's hard to wake up at 7am after two weeks off! Hope everyone has a good day, I see a very early coffee break in my future.
QODT: Would you wear a white dress with big red flowers on it to a wedding or do you stay away from white altogether? What about an entirely black dress?
Right, so both dress questions were self-serving :-) I have two weddings this year. One in April in England in the afternoon at a castle and one in Portugal in June, not sure of the time. I bought this dress for the April wedding and a black dress for no reason at all. I think the black dress isn't right for Portugal (something more summery would work) but what about this one for the English wedding? It has a matching belt but I was considering getting a black belt instead to break it up a bit. I'd wear black shoes as well. (and yes, I realise that it isn't actually red flowers, I totally remembered it wrong!)
Re: Good morning!! (edited with dress)
I was like that on Tuesday! Though it wasn't much easier this morning either (I'm a 6am alarm girl, been at my desk since 7.15) Long day for me today - won't get out til nearly 5 this evening... bleugh....
QOTD: If my skin tone allowed it, yes, I'd wear a white dress with big red flowers as long as there were a decent number of red flowers. I have worn an entirely black dress to a few weddings (same dress) and just used accessories to bring colour in. For a couple of the weddings I wore a coral coloured jacket over it and for others I had a chinese blue wrap and fascinator.
Good morning! Thursday was pretty good. The cool change came through and we've had two days of lovely weather. I am loving being able to open my windows. Friday DH has a funeral to go to -- I'd go with him but I haven't met that side of his family and he feels (and I agree) that a funeral is not the best place for introductions. So I am going to make a mock King Cake in celebration of Twelfth Night and Drew Brees' favorite beefy mac for dinner (in honor of the NOLA Saints making it to the Playoffs).
QOTD: I would not hesitate to wear a light floral print white sundress to a spring/summer garden wedding. It would not be appropriate to a fall/winter wedding. I never wear black if I can help it. My Dad hated to see women in black and he never bought black clothes. I grew up not being exposed to black as a clothing color choice and really can't think of it as appropriate for anything other than mourning. Also, I really, really do not like black at weddings.
Good morning! Thank goodness tomorrow's a holiday, is all I can say.
QOTD: White with a floral print sounds fine for a spring/summer wedding, as others have said. I also think black is fine as long as it's softened by some sort of colored accessory. I wouldn't want the couple to think I had secretly been pining after the groom and was sad he was now taken. ;-)
Morning, I hear you Pitt! We got back from the US last night at 11:00 p.m. and I am struggling this morning. Thank goodness I don't have any meetings until next week. I am going to get moving in five minutes.
QOTD: Yes, I would wear a white dress with red flowers for a spring/summer wedding. I once wore a white dress to a wedding when I was 12. My mom said she didn't want an argument and my heart was set on wearing it. The bride didn't seem to mine. I have also worn a black dress in winter/fall weddings, especially if it is black tie with great accessories.
Hi! We got back yesterday from our trip to South Africa and I'm still recovering. I am absolutely in love with that country though. I cannot wait to go back (which, since the couple we were visiting got engaged while we were there, will be sometime next year for their wedding).
QOTD: No to anything with a base color of white. Yes to black--although I'd probably throw some color into the outfit in either loud jewelry, shoe, or handbag form.
Welcome back Pitt!
I'm feeling a bit better today after a few days of a nasty cold. Still hoping to head home earlyish today to continue resting. I do have to get working on my taxes, though - I keep running into one issue after another and the filing is due the end of the month.
QOTD: I think a white dress with flowers is fine. I actually had someone where an all white dress to my wedding and I didn't think anything of it. I see all black dresses all the time at weddings, especially if it's in the evening. I wouldn't wear black to a day wedding.
Cecilia arrived 12 October 2012
Morning! It's so windy that I get slapped in the face by my hair every time I step a foot outside, I wish I could have just cosied up at home today!
QOTD: yes to floral dress but only if there's more pattern than white and yes to black dress, especially in the evening.
Morning. Welcome back travelers.
I have a pretty easy day ahead. Just doing some laundry this afternoon, and later today I'm going to go see H's new office then we're going to drinks with friends.
I've been kind of bored on maternity leave, to be honest. It doesn't help that the weather's been crap, so there have been a few days where I've just hunkered down indoors.
QOTD: Either would work depending on the season and time of day.
Agreed!
Forgot to mention that my mom wore cream to my wedding. It was outdoors and the dress she had planned to wear was way too hot bc we were having a heatwave, so she asked me if it would be ok. I didn't care, but I'm pretty relaxed about that kind of thing.
ETA: I think that dress would be fine. Any bride who complains about a dress like that being too white has an inferiority complex, IMHO.
QOTD: As far as I am aware, in the UK the no white dress does not apply. Pippa wore a white brides maid dress.
Add a fasinator to either and you are fine for any season. Don't wear the black one in Portugal, you will get too hot if the before drinks are outside, which they prabably will be.
Morning! Er, afternoon. I'm constantly late to these things. Seeing as I didn't wake up until 11am it's understandable though. :P Today DH has the afternoon off and I don't know what we're going to do, but I'm sure we'll have fun!
QOTD: I think that dress would be fine. I'd also wear black and dress it up with colorful accessories like someone else (Irish?) mentioned.
titicole: Pippa also stole the bride's thunder in that white dress!
Wear red shoes with it...that would look awesome!
