Re: Thirsty Thursday Randoms
I have no idea what I got, it didn't have chili on it, but it wasn't a veggie dog either. I thought it was pretty good! I mean, it's a hotdog, afterall, I'm not going to be too wowed, but it was good, and I enjoyed it.
I have been in there a few times before to use the loo after the bars closed, so I knew the atmosphere, cleanliness, etc. of the joint. Typical Eastown establishment; exactly how I would've pictured the experience going. :-)
This.
Do I need a laptop?
Should I get one?
I keep wavering. Do I really need one for 2 classes/semester for the next year? I have a computer at work (obviously.) I could come in early, stay late, or stay in for lunch to do school-related things on it.
I keep trying to justify it by saying that it will be nice to upload my picures on to. And it will save me money (and time and effort) by being able to purchase e-books. But we don't have internet access at home and have zero intentions of getting it.
What to do, what to do...
I think spending that much time at work would weigh you down quickly. It might be nice to study with a laptop somewhere with WIFI, it's everywhere now. Plus having a place to put pictures and music would be beneficial.
I agree with Wop, especially with the part about too much time at work.
Des and Mol - do you have data plans with your phones. Can you you...."ughh what is the term..." basically you use your cell phone connection with your laptop. I can't think of the proper term. Can anyone help me out.
Honestly with a kid at home, I would want internet connection at home so you can do your homework after T goes to bed or during nap time. Or if the weather is bad, you don't have to leave your house. I would think that you are going to need to need to do some online research. Or if you finish a paper at the zero hour, you can email it to your prof. Sometimes, profs will be nice and let you have until midnight on the day that it is due.
Turn it into a hotspot? DH just added that option to his Sprint plan, it's an extra $30 a month. But it works great for his tablet.
Hot spot?
I thought it was something like lock...it was a one word verb.
Also should I have said sending in the paper at the 11th hour, not zero hour?
Tether is the word I think your looking for. It allows your phone to "share" its internet connect with other devices. Hotspot is the same thing. There are adapters that you can buy that plug into a laptop which may work for you too. Verizon also has a Mifi device if you don't want to plug something in.
Looking for laptops is really overwhelming.
Where did you buy your last non-Mac laptop from?
Are you looking for a full on laptop or a net book? SS has a HP netbook that the school gave him and I think it is pretty nice. Ya know for a PC.
I have to take everything down this weekend and put back into storage containers - I am not looking to it at all. Blah!
GRSP, awesome prize basket for sure! And lol at kids' yoga. A few years ago I was saying something to one of my nephews (he was 3ish at the time) about working out. He said "this is how my mom works out" and demonstrated some pilates moves.
Wendy, enjoy your cooking class.
I've been going crazy with cooking while on break. Today's adventure was homemade bbq sauce to go with some slow cooked pork I made yesterday. The bbq twist was unexpected since the pork was supposed to be "chinese style." Since it tasted good on its own, but not as I intended to serve it, I'm doing homemade baked beans, sauteed baby spinach and cornbread as sides for tonight's dinner. I'm sure L will be very sad to see me head back to the D.
Molly, if you have to write any papers for your classes, I think a laptop would be worth it. You aren't going to want to spend that much extra time at work and what if you want to get anything done over a weekend?
Also, I know a lot of my professors use class websites (like blackboard, if that was around when you were last in college) to post supplementary materials, power points of lecture, etc. Having access to that through a laptop would also be nice.
What is a netbook? Can you write papers and read textbooks on a netbook?
I almost just purchased a laptop from Amazon. But most of the people reviewing it paid $50-$100 less than its listed at. Grrr. I want to pay the price that they paid. Wah. Ha.
Plus they said the laptop felt cheap. But they gave it great reviews. Stop confusing me, people.
That sounds fantastic!
And homemade bbq sauce sounds great. I searched and searched for BBQ sauce that did not contain HFCS. I ended up spending $5/small bottle of organic stuff. Very expensive compared to ALL of the other brands, but worth it IMO. I hate how HFCS is in eveything.
I feel you on HFCS in everything. I don't think it's the worst thing in the world, but definitely don't want it in everything (like bread and bbq sauce).
The sauce I made was super easy. It probably took less than 15 minutes and I had all of the (very common) ingredients on hand. It is a little more "vinegar-y" than most store bought sauces, but that's what I was looking for to pair with the pork. Adding some liquid smoke would make it taste a lot more like store bought sauces I think.
Yay for cooking on break DP!
I've been in yesterdog, but haven't eaten there. Even their veggie dog gives me the willies.
Deeder, while I'm sure it's sad to have to leave, it might be nice to have an end in sight there. Now you're not unsure of when next steps will take place, and you can start envisioning your future.
Des and Mol, my laptop has been one of the best tools for school. There's a lot of internet-based communication for my classes (from the profs, from group members, etc). We got a Toshiba Satellite for me. It's been great with internet and class stuff. I also do a lot with photos. I've been very happy.
I would stop in at Best Buy and have a look around.
Netbook is a lighter smaller version of laptop. You should be able to do most everything on a netbook that you can a laptop but I'm not sure about textbooks.
***Very stupid question alert***
Do I have to buy Microsoft Office 7 (or whatever it is) seperately?
Thank you....I had total brain fail and couldn't think of the info.
I think that when you buy a new laptop Windows 7 is included in the price and often already installed. You may have to purchase Office separately.
It's gorgeous out today.
