Another interesting story...

Did you see this one?
I mean, I'm all for protecting your child... and I think she had every right to protect herself and her baby, whatever means necessary.
The part I don't get? How is the guy's accomplice charged in connection to the 'murder'? Breaking and entering? Yes. Intent to harm? Yes. Accomplice to murder? That seems a little far reaching.
I hope this doesn't seem mean, but I say "good for her".
Re: Another interesting story...
Did anyone else put together that this girl with the infant is 18, and her dead husband was 58? A FORTY year age difference?!?!? Dear Lord.
ETA: Bri, I'm with you. She's absolutely within her rights to shoot anyone who's breaking into her house with a weapon. Kudos to her for having her head on straight enough to clarify with the 911 dispatcher first.
Yeah, I saw that. But love knows no age, right? Haha...
There is a recording of her call with the 911 operator. She was SO calm. I would think that I would be freaking the f out! But, I guess maternal instinct kicked in and she knew she had to protect her baby. Apparently she blocked the door with a couch and they pushed on it for 20 mins before getting in. That is some scary stuff!
And that took ENTIRELY too long for the police to get there.

This was the same thing I saw! 40 years! All power to her though because if he was trying to get in for 20 mins and she didn't shot him then this story could have a ver different ending.
The friend who was with him getting charged with murder is a little harsh, but I guess that's what happens when you put yourself in that situation to begin with.

I saw it too... and all of the things you guys have said are valid points.
However, I can't get past the fact that police did not come. 20 something minutes!?!?! What if they had gotten to her and killed/kidnapped her and her baby?
I just can't wrap my head around that.
Ok, so about the age difference... she's 18, and has a 3-month old baby... unless she's just about to turn 19, doesn't that make her under 18 at the time of conception? 40 years difference is not okay when the younger party is not an adult.
I think charging the accomplice is a bit strange, but the reasoning seems kind of valid - "When you're engaged in a crime such as first-degree burglary and a death results from the events of that crime, you're subject to prosecution for it," Walters said.
Also, did you know that if you shoot an intruder that you are legally allowed to shoot (as in this case), their family can sue you civilly (for wrongful death, I believe)? And likely win? Just a crazy tidbit of info for you.
You also notice they never say when they actually made it to the scene. I wonder how long it was after she shot him that they finally showed up.

Without going back and looking at where this occurred, was it a rural area? If so, 20 minutes is nothing. Where I grew up, it would take an abulance at least 45 minutes to come, so people would frequently just drive their loved ones to the hospital themselves in an emergency. People rarely call the cops, but I'm sure it's the same story. "Emergency" in a small town translates to "we'll be there in a little while" sadly.
ETA: In Dallas, this is not the case. My sister had a crazy neighbor threatening her and trying to climb over the fence, and she called 911 and informed them that she had a gun and would be using it if someone did not arrive to stop the crazy lady. I think it was about 2-3 minutes before the cop got there
i had read it in another article. apparently they've been married 2 years? Which means that mommy and daddy had to sign off on the marriage i would think.
gross.
one thing i find odd is that neither of the boys went through the windows? I find it hard to believe that they kicked on the door for 20 something minutes. the window to the front room is literally RIGHT beside the door.......
