For a Valentine's Day dinner with friends, what would you make? It's going to be casual, I just can't think of any foods...
Ideally, I'd like a couple appetizer to have sitting out, then the main meal with a starter and two sides.
Re: What would you make?
How many people and are there any dietary restrictions?
My first thought goes to filets with baked potato/potato gratin, asparagus, salad. Another thing might be stuffed chicken breast (you can make ahead of time), sugar snap peas, spinach salad.
Cheesecake, creme brulee, or tiramisu for dessert.
About 15 I suppose, and there aren't any dietary restrictions.
Thank you for the suggestions!
How casual is casual?
Really casual: build-your-own taco bar or soup bar
Medium casual: lasagna
Dressy casual: beef tenderloin with herbs (expensive) or pork tenderloin stuffed with spinach and feta
The exact apps of course depend on your main. Choose a main and we'll suggest apps

I made heart-shaped cookie press cookies for a Valentine's Day dinner a few years ago. Pink and white ones with red sugar sprinkles. I put several cookies on each person's bread plate. It looked really cute! Everyone ate them before dinner. LOL.
This is random, but I have made lamburgers for company before and they were much loved! You can always do middle eastern appetizers (grape leaves, tabbouleh) with this main dish.

My read shelf:

I would do rack of lamb, Pioneer Woman's herbed potatoes and roasted asparagus for the meal. I would do the goat cheese and mushroom strudel from Epicurious as seated first course/salad. If you need to, you can sear off the lamb the day before, then rub with a marinade {I would go with a Mediterranean one with lemon zest, rosemary, garlic, olive oil, etc.} and finish it off while you eat the strudel. Roast the asparagus at the same time. The potatoes can be made ahead and can sit while you do the rest. If you have to have some apps out when people get there, maybe a cheese plate and a veggie tray with the buttermilk peppercorn dip from Martha Stewart Entertaining. If you don't want to do a seated first course, the Roasted Stuffed Mushrooms with Spinach, Feta and Bacon from Epi are DELICIOUS and would make a great app to put out! An easy do-ahead recipe and so good.
Here are all the recipes I suggested...I'm on a Mac, so no clicky. Sorry!
I would skip the balsamic syrup and just drizzle a little good vinegar on top of the slices...http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Mushroom-and-Goat-Cheese-Strudel-with-Balsamic-Syrup-102424
