Hey everyone..
The last place we lived in we found was infested with fleas. They took over my poor cats body to the point where he would itch so much he bled. We did flea baths, topicals and Cap Star(which is amazing btw).
We got the fleas off and all the eggs and moved! He was so much happier and he didn't have fleas for months. Well now all of the sudden he's getting them again! Topical's aren't working well. I have two Cap Star pills left that I will probably give him but that's only going to be a temporary fix.
Do some cats get fleas easily? I don't understand. We didn't have fleas here when we moved in and he didn't either. We made sure of it. We were SO careful.
Any advice for us?
Re: What is going on with my poor cat!?
Does he go outside? Or is he in contact with any other animals that do? Some places, environment-wise, are more likely to have fleas around than others. And there could've been fleas in your stuff and you didn't know it---like a carpet-covered tower or barrel that cats seem to like, or furniture.

Stay on top of it as best you can. Might need to treat your house with a bomb or something, which would suck but it's better than repeatedly trying to clean your cat of fleas.
Don't know where you're located, but in the NE here, the vet just told us the fleas are as bad/worse now than they were over the summer. They've been thriving with the milder winter temps we've had so far. Give me a solid week of freezing temps, and I'll be happy to deal with it if it kills off some of the flea population!
If your cat goes outside at all (even just supervised with you), it's possible for them to pick up bugs. Not sure what to suggest since the topicals don't seem to be working for you. I don't know if they make an oral flea preventative. It might be something to call and ask the vet about.
And ditto PP: it's entirely possible you could have brought some fleas/eggs with you when you moved if everything wasn't cleaned beforehand. Anywhere you cat hung out would be likely contain fleas/eggs/larvae. Vacuuming carpets daily and washing anything you can get into the machine on HOT water helps eliminate the problem. Several ladies here have also used food-grade diatomaceous earth. It's supposed to destroy the flea exoskeleton, thus killing them, but it's completely natural, and the food-grade DE isn't dangerous for your pets. Just cover your nose/mouth while spreading it around, since it's really dusty and you don't want to breathe all that in!

ask your vet about prescribing revolution it will not only take care of the fleas it will kill the internal parasites associated with fleas
i had a similar problem a few years ago and my vet told me that a cat that spends time in a ground floor window can get fleas through the screen
also if you have pests (i.e. mice) in your home that could be a source
OMG That's it! We live on the ground floor and when we have the sliding door open he loves sitting against the screen! SOB... This is so frustrating..
Thanks guys!
