Good morning and happy holiday!

At least to everyone who has it off!

How are you spending the day if you don't have to go to work? If you are at work, how do you wish you could spend the day (remember all shops are closed :-))?

QOTD: When you were growing up, did your parents let you drink pop/soda/Coke/whatever you call it? If so, were there any restrictions? Did you have any sort of restrictions on other beverages (other than alcohol, obviously)?

Re: Good morning and happy holiday!

  • DH has it off, so we're going to finally try to catch up on laundry and cleaning. Doesn't that sound exciting? Hopefully there will be some relaxing, too, although DH is going to hog the TV most of the afternoon/evening, I'm sure, because of the ski jumping tournament.

QOTD: My parents let us have 2 cans / week. I don't remember how they monitored it, since it was kept in a fridge downstairs that we could access freely, but I seem to recall it working pretty well. DH's parents made them mix their juice (Germans mix juice with sparkling water almost all the time) with no more than 40% juice / 60% water. To this day he mixes with 60% juice / 40% water to "make up" for having to do it the other way as a kid.

  • Good morning! Today is my half day at work and all I can think about is taking a nap when I get home. mmmm...nap... anywho, after that, not much going on.

QOTD: I don't  remember having restrictions on sodas, but I also don't remember drinking a lot of them either. My guess is that it would have been restricted had I been drinking too many. I drank mostly juice or water, I believe.

  • Good Morning and Happy Twelfth Night!

Friday was pretty lazy.  DH had a funeral to go to, so I was by myself most of the day.  I got some reading done, made blondies and caught up on some tv, and most important, took a nap.  In my opinion, the value of afternoon naps is sorely underrated.

QOTD:  We never had cokes in our house.  We always had Kool-Aid, which mom made with half to 3/4 of the sugar suggested.  We also had root beer made with a root beer extract, sugar, and flat water.  We could have small cokes if we went out to dinner, but they were not a regular thing in our house until we were all adults.  I think that was more a budgetary decision than a health conscious one.  I used to love to go to my grandmother's house over the summer.  She had a SodaStream, when they were new and cool in the 80's.  That was pretty awesome.

  • Morning! Much milder and less windy here today. Really mild in fact... the birds were singing at 6.45 as I waited for my bus!

I'm in work and dog tired... can't seem to get enough sleep, though last night I really should have just gone to bed earlier but got caught watching Restoration Man on tv (we watched it slightly delayed).  (Anyone else see it?).  But I've a hospital appointment today to get a weird mole checked out so will be finishing up around 1pm in here.

QOTD: not restricted per se, but we didn't have them in the house when we were growing up that I recall.  Milk, water, juice (to a lesser extent) and tea were what we had.  A friend's mum got a soda stream and that was cool.  But I was young in the time of 20% interest rates on mortgages and all that so money wasn't in abundance and I'm the eldest of 5...  We'd have it in my grandparents house or if we went out (not often)

  • Morning ladies!  No holiday here for me...I'm not even sure what holiday it is?  I'm so glad it's Friday...I've been in the UK all week for work, and I'm finally home now.  Basically, just a day of work here, and getting caught up with laundry, then a blissfully relaxing weekend ahead.

QOTD:  We had soda in the house, but I don't remember much restriction on it.  I don't think I drank it that often though, to be honest.  I mostly drank juice, water, milk, or kool-aid.

  • Morning! We are off to the ILs soon for gifts and a Spanish reyes pastry called roscon. Yum. I am very excited for the holiday season to be over tbh. Family gatherings get tiring and moreao with the new baby. Anyway, today should be fun. QOTD: No, we never had restrictions and always had a ton of sodas in the house. I probably drank one or more Dr. Pepper a day. My dad also used to drink a ton of soda so saw nothing wrong with it.

  • Good morning! I would absolutely love to still be asleep right now. Day 2 back at work after 2 weeks off and I'm struggling. About to have a very early coffee. Am planning on doing pretty much nothing all weekend except watching (American) football, hurray!

QODT: My mom didn't allow refined sugar in our house so no sodas for me! We had fruit juice and milk and water. I still feel a bit like I'm breaking the rules when I have soda now.

  • Morning! DD got her immunizations this morning. It was not very fun, but over quickly! Now we're just hoping that she doesn't have any fever/sickness from them in the next week or so. Not much else planned for today. I'll probably go to the park with DD when she wakes up from her nap. DH is working today, but he is planning on going into London to get me some green salsa (salsa verde) to make dinner tonight!

QOTD: I wasn't really allowed to drink pop (was what we called it!). We had it at special occasions - road trips, sometimes on a Sunday, or parties. I think mostly because it would've been expensive to order drinks for all 6 of us when we went out to eat, we always had water. To this day I rarely drink soda. I much prefer water!

  • Good morning, I am so tired.  Ihate jet lag.  I am working today and going to bed early tonight.  Wild Friday for me!

QOTD:  My grandparents always had pop, but we rarely had it.  It was considered a treat.  We had a lot of water, juice, milk and kool-aid.  And sometimes ice tea in the summer.  Honestly, I rarely drink pop, I don't like the carbon or the feeling on my teeth!

  • What holiday is it? Certainly I don't have it off.

I just finished feeding minibini, now time to get me ready for work and him for daycare. TGIF!

QOTD: as a little kid soda was a very special treat. We only got it at parties and on holidays or when we had company. When I was about 12 my mom started letting us have diet soda more often, like once or twice a day. 18 years later I'm a pretty hard core diet coke addict.

  • Good morning! I'm doing a bit of work around the house today and running some errands in town. Tonight we're having drinks with people in our NCT course.

  • Morning! I'm completely exhausted for some reason and can't wait until the day is over & the weekend starts!

QOTD: My parents never kept soda type drinks in the house while I was growing up, except for the occasional bottle of tonic (for gin, lol) which I found disgusting back then.

I only had the occasional (cherry) coke at my grandmother's - she stocked all kinds of sodas for the grandkids. Maybe one a week/every two weeks? As a result, I never really liked sweet/sparkly drinks and still am a water drinker to this day though I have learned to like tonic.

  • Good Morning!!! I still have my cold but I did wake up to a pile of gifts under the tree and some blueberry pancakes so today is bettter than yesterday.

QOTD: We always had a soda in the house and I had about a can a day.

  • Morning (although it's afternoon now)! Add me to the list of people who have no idea what holiday it is! It's our Saturday, so I'm off as usual!

Just got back from Zumba and lunch with friends, and we're heading to the airport late to pick up SIL, who is flying in today. She's here until the 15th, so we'll be busy entertaining her!

QOTD: Yep. We were allowed to have soda and I don't remember there being any restrictions on things we couldn't drink. My parents were pretty lenient, and my grandmother (Italian) used to let us have a sip of wine/sparkling alcohol when we had Sunday dinners. We're were allowed to see R rated movies too, lol.

  • Afternoon! Not a holiday for us but it is the first day of the weekend. I went to a jewelry party with a friend. She got a pair of earrings. I put in a request for a quote for a ring I want. We hung out with the ladies there and then went to sushi. Fed BabyGirl and came home. Probably just chill the rest of the day and figure out something for dinner.

QOTD: My parents did let us drink soda, and my favorite was root beer, but then they started tapering our consumption. I think it was as they learned how much kids shouldn't have. Same thing with other drinks. Went from unrestricted and unhealthy, the healthier, to restricted. Again, pretty sure it was as they learned the juice cocktail is not the same as 100% fruit juice and how much a kid should have.

  • FYI for those who asked - it's Epiphany (otherwise known as the day the 3 kings arrived in Bethlehem with their gifts for baby Jesus). I'm very thankful for the number of Christian holidays that (at least southern) Germany still celebrates.

  • Good morning everyone! I've been away from the nest for a little bit, but I think I'm back for  bit.

QOTD: I don't remember drinking too much Coke growing up, but I don't remember it being restricted (at least after I was about 7). I drank a lot of Iced Tea, a lot.

  • I'm at work and I'd love to be on the couch right now napping...I'm tired!  Or at the least, watching the rest of Footloose which I recorded!

QOTD: we would have sodas once in a great while but not regularly.  We didn't have restrictions against them, just couldn't afford to buy them often (we were very poor).

  • Good morning.  I'm working today.

QOTD: We were allowed soda but I don't remember if I drank a lot of it.  We did drink a lot of juice though.  My mom always made Crystal Light in the summer too.

  • Morning! I got back to the US last night, minus my suitcases...hopefully they will arrive today. I got to meet MintChoco yesterday when she came to meet me at the airport in Newark, so that was an excellent way to spend a layover! :D

QOTD: We had no restrictions, except for maybe coffee.

  • Good morning (at least on this side of the world, good afternoon to the rest!)

I haven't been able to visit the nest too often over the holidays. I hope everyone had a great holiday with their loved ones. Now it's back to the old routine of work and the occasional procrastination by visiting you great people here ;)

QOTD: My parents weren't fans of soda so we never had any in the house. I still don't drink a lot of soda (I prefer it flat, so I sometimes get to finish the bottles my husband opens).

  • Hello and good evening! No holidays here, but since I'm unemployed I still slept in : )

QOTD: I don't remember restrictions on soda as a kid - but I do know that for a while my parents wouldn't buy them because my sister and I kept wasting them. We'd open a can and then forget about it and leave it half full. Still do that sometimes, but now it's my own money I'm wasting : p
