KatiesCats

Hi. I was hoping I could get your advice on something. Lately I've been really wanting another greyhound. Right now we have a female and some people have been telling me that two females won't always get along and its good to have one of each They are just so big!

Have you had more than one girl at once? Did they get along? Clearly we'd make sure they got along before bringing another dog in but I was hoping to get an opinion of someone who knows more than I do!

Re: KatiesCats

  • Hey!  I've had two females a few times.  The first time, we had Roxie (Okie Galena) and Heidi (Where's Raw Hide).  Roxie was an ornery girl and Heidi was extremely easygoing.  We didn't have any issues with them at all.  Later we had Emmy (MJ Rowdy) and Queenly (PTL Queenly) at the same time, and they did just fine as well.

The only issue we've had between greyhounds at our house was with Frank (Soy Franco) and Emmy (MJ Rowdy).  We had Frank, Emmy, and Jack (WWW Kojak) standing at the bottom of the stairs, watching me as I went up.  As soon as I hit the top step, I heard a scuffle and shrieking.  I guess Emmy crowded Frank too much and he bit her pretty badly...it required an e-vet visit, sedation, a drain, stitches, etc.  We learned from this incident and another that Frank had space issues, and he was quickly adopted into a home without other dogs.

There are plenty of people who have multiple greys, and multiple female greys.  I'm of the mind it's a personality thing more than a sex thing.  The best way to determine who your next grey should be is to foster!  Give it a month to make sure things are really going well, and then finalize.

Good luck!  Your girl is beautiful :)

PS- Did you know we adopted one finally?  Our 25th foster...Nite (Darcass the Nite).  Excuse the pic on greyhound-data...it's so hard to get good photos of black dogs.  He's 95 pounds of shy sweetness.
