Dogs in crates- Where do you put your crate?
Specifically those of you who don't keep the crate in your bedroom. Our dog does great at bedtime. She sleeps right next to me on the floor and we don't have the space in our bedroom for a crate anyways.
I'm thinking we'll have to put ours in the sitting rom (kitchen also has limited space and the basement houses our bunny which would drive the dog bonkers.) It just sucks because our sitting room is newly decorated and the crate is going to be a huge eye sore, lol!
Re: Dogs in crates- Where do you put your crate?
So, I realize this is a luxury most people don't have--but the corgis have their own bedroom next to ours. Someday it might be occupied by a human, but for now this works great.
I get the limited space issue though. Not sure the age/activity level of your dog, but have you ever seen anything like this crate from orvis:

They are designed to be pretty and functional. Our dogs would shred it from the inside out, but I am the parent of two insane corgis. Just an idea if it needs to be in view.
We're in a HCOL area so we have a small apartment with three rooms. We can't put her in the bathroom, so she usually goes in the living room (what I like to call the office/living/laundry/dining/guest room). The crate goes in a corner beside a big chair, kind of hidden, and facing the sliding doors so she can see out into nature (DH's idea). Can you kind of hid it with furniture? Maybe you could put a blanket over it to make it less noticeable?
Our basement is totally finished & heated. I would prefer their crates down thete, but that would require a major furniture rearrangement. We shall see.
I get where you're coming from. When we lived in NYC, we were in a studio apartment, so T's crate was next to the fridge, and his play pen was next to the kitchen table/my study space. Not exactly chic decor!
Now that we're in a house (and have 2 dogs), the crates are in the "dog room" which is also the office. They spend the day baby-gated in the office (with the option of going in their crates) and then sleep on dog beds in our bedroom at night. Like PP, someday the office might have to be a bedroom, but for now, it works.
