looking for a red pt. series applehead balinese

hi nesties

i know that you are from all around the globe and i am looking for something quite rare so i thought it would be worth asking

a fellow breeder and i were talking recently and we both observed that nowhere in the states were we seeing red series old style Siamese or Balinese cats it seems as though they have almost completely disappeared from this country, on that note though their are alot of smaller breeders around the world that don't make their presence known enough to find by going to cat shows or searching the web. he and i agreed that we are going to resurrect the old style red point between the two of us so my question is this. if you know anyone with a purebred red, cream, apricot or tortie point applehead Siamese or Balinese could you please let me know and maybe connect us? right now we are hunting down existing lines so that we know what we will have to work with because otherwise we will have to breed in modern Siamese for the color and then work on type later

i know their are plenty of people who are anti breeder and i am really not looking for drama

thank you in advance for any help

Re: looking for a red pt. series applehead balinese

  • I think the biggest problem is that ACFA, CFA, and TICA have all but written out the applehead style from championship judging... so even if you were to resurrect them, you would be running into the difficult situation of having to breed non-champions to produce a foundation line.

As far as I know, there are currently only 10 Balinese breeders in the US who are actively breeding and showing. You might want to check with Shirley of Shirwood Acres (Located out of Illinois) to see if she currently has any reds. I know I haven't seen her with one in years though.... and I haven't seen her with an applehead in at least a decade.

Nice to see a fellow fancier around here! Sometimes I feel like the only Bali owner on the planet!

  • I'm not trying to start drama, just genuinely curious question.

If you have to start the breed again by mixing, what do you do with all the litters until you get the breed you are looking for?

Kittens are sold as pet quality only with spay/neuter agreements into loving homes.

Additionally, I know at least one of the organizations allow outcrossing in the pedigree because there is such a limited gene pool. So theoretically, OP could show kittens from the resulting litters.

Balinese breeding for purpose began in the 50's with foundation kittens from Siamese litters that came out longhaired. CFA, for example, allows outcrossing with Siamese, Colorpoint Shorthair, and Oriental Longhair. Red and Creme point have only been recognized since the 1980's for championship competition.

crossing moderns with traditionals is not actually mixing breeds  just mixing conformation types and i'm not resurrecting a breed i am resurrecting a color the GCCF in the UK recognizes red/cream/apricot points and they seem quite popular out their but i am specifically looking for a red/cream/apricot bali with a traditional conformation although i may have to settle for a wedge head

also TICA recognizes red points and alot of applehead breeders continue to register their cats with the CFA and TICA despite the fact that the applehead type violates the breed standard no one wants anything to do with the TCA because Diana Fineran is a wingbat

The 2011 TICA B.O.B. kitten was a red point wedge. You may want to start there.
