My dogs got sprayed by skunk last night

It was last potty call at 10:30 and I smell that particular smell. I run outside and my babies are rubbing their faces on the grass. I bring them in and rinse them off and start googling like a madwoman.

Apple Cider Vinegar, baking soda and dawn dishsoap. That's the magic concoction.

We use peroxide, baking soda and Dawn.

I tried the peroxide, baking soda, dawn concoction first. It didn't work. I started googling more and went to a 1 a.m. trip to the 24 hr grocery store to pick up vinegar.

Massengil Douche. We swear by it in the groom shop I used to work at. Takes alot, let it soak for a while. and works even better if followed up with some dawn dish soap to break down the oily musk.

Our dogs have never been sprayed (luckily) but we're moving to a house with a HUGE yard...and possible skunks. I'll have to keep this in mind.

 

I heard tomato just/sauce is supposed to work? Is this true or just an old wives tale?

We tried tomato juice first. No go.

I'll keep the douche in mind in case there is a next time. we live very close to a wildlife refuge

I also read that moth balls in jars w/holes deter them from your yard

Ooh, I wish I'd known of this magic solution when my dog got skunked years ago.  We did tomato juice and coffee. It didn't help (at least, not enough). He'd rubbed all over me as soon as I let him in the door, and I had college interviews the next day, for which I had a certain odor myself...
