'cuz not my area of expertese.

FWIW, I KNOW, they're a mutt-breeder, so red flag #1.

I've already pointed that out to the person who is asking.  I'm looking for the less obvious flags:

Re: someone want to give some breeder feedback quick for me

  • Well, you know the obvious, they aren't breeding a pure breed.  Beyond that there is very little information given on the website.  I can say that they aren't breeding conformation champions, but also no other titles are given so it's a pretty safe bet to say that they haven't been tested or competed in other arenas other than just having their CGC.  They do have health testing listed for the parents, but they didn't give OFA numbers (so I would at least check that everything that they list on the website is accurate to what has been submitted to OFA).  They did have a decent contract under forms from my quick glance that includes spay/neuter.

Obviously, I would never recommend them because they are breeding a mixed breed that isn't breeding true and hasn't competed to champions to show that they are worthy of breeding.

  • yeah, we're already having the 'don't buy poo dogs' conversation.  But that didn't quite sink in yet.
  • So I feel terrible ... but damn those dogs are cute!

I'm 100% against designer dogs to order and very pro-rescue, but when I see dogs like that it's hard to argue! When I was less 'educated' I wanted a labrador/poodle or a cocker spaniel/poodle mix too!

I'm a bad dog activist - PPs had way more to contribute than I do.

The problem isn't with getting one of those mixes, it's getting them through a bad breeder.  There are plenty of mixes in shelters.

Yep, that's where my argument always lands.

I mean, you folks have seen Dawg, I'm OBVIOUSLY not against mixed breed dogs :-P

I'm just against making it profitable for people to irresponsibly breed (and I have to say, Dawg was most likely someone's oops.  No complaints here--I didn't give $$$$ to someone to make more big-goofy dogs with heart defects and bad knees.

  • first red flag for me is that her litter due febuary 1st will be ready to go home march 24th (that is 7 1/2 weeks and technicly illegal) i breed cats not dogs but it is always a red flag when breeders let their puppies/kittens leave at the legal minimum age. a good breeder will keep their puppies/kittens for at least 10-16 weeks

i'm also not thrilled that she is'nt sharing information on where these dogs were bred and what lines they come from

my first reaction was good god she has 13 dogs but then i saw that all of the studs are listed as having 'guardian families' which is a good sign  it means that she keeps herself open to different pairings a breeder who only uses one stud is a breeder who is stagnant just breeding for money without progressing the breed

Why not save a puppy from the shelter that is also a mix.. there are thousands that are killed every year just because of byb's, puppymills, ect...

We got our Husky/Lab mix from a family who saved a whole litter from a backyard breeder who didn't know what they were doing, and was going to euthanize them all.

I watched a video the other night on euthanizations, and interviews with the vets who have to do it, and I was big mess, crying and cuddling with my "mutt"
