My computer started acting weird about a week before Christmas. The screen would go dark at random and I had to keep it at a very low brightness to keep it working. It finally stopped working at all a couple of days after Christmas and I sent it away to be fixed on the 31st.
I got a Kindle for Christmas and read 12 books between Christmas day and January 6th. This is more books that I read all summer. It is clear to me that I spend WAY too much time messing around on my computer. Granted, I spend probably 50% of the time reading interesting, worthwhile articles. But the rest of the time I'm pretty much going "maybe something new is on FB... Maybe something new is on twitter... maybe something new is on the IN board..." (this is leisure time, not counting time I spend working on my computer). I got my computer back yesterday, and I haven't picked up my new book yet. Shame!
I really have to be better about deciding that I'll spend a certain amount of time on my computer and then shut it and go do something worthwhile. I really enjoy reading more than lounging on my computer, I don't know why it is so hard for me to do it!
In case anyone was wondering, of the books I read I recommend -
The Hunger Games trilogy - I liked the first one the most by far. But the other ones were entertaining to and I had to know how it ended ![]()
The Night Circus - Weird, entertaining, and very original. I haven't read anything quite like it. It has its flaws, but I enjoyed it a lot.
Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter - A really good mystery, my mom recommended it and I wasn't disappointed.
Bossypants - Tiny Fey's autobiography. Autobiography seems like it is the wrong word, it is more a series of funny stories and moments from her life. It was funny and a really interesting perspective on her life, as I like her already.
Re: What does this say about me?
Isn't it amazing the things we remember we enjoy doing when we can't get on our computers?
This post kind of reminded me about the Malcom in the Middle episode where the parents couldn't have sex so the house became perfectly clean and all repairs were made XD

Says you are experiencing an increasingly common problem. Haven't you seen how people can't even walk or drive a car without having to be plugged in? They would rather be checking in online or by text rather than watching the road.
I'm online a bunch right now with time at home with maternity leave. Also have a lot of research to do online regarding our upcoming move. But I almost preferred working and having limited time to check online.
IT really is a sign of our time, unfortunately. I recognize it though. When we don't have our laptops with us on vacation or a weekend out-of-town, we do and see so much more. All the minutes of just checking FB/TN/e-mail add up. When we don't have internet/computer, we'll walk around, go sit at cafes, when we do, we buy a bottle of soda and some snacks and go to our hotel to wind down - winding down meaning getting online.
I try to limit my computer use a couple of days a week now, but it's hard! I do indeed notice that my house gets cleaner and I make more use of books, bathtub and sauna when I put down the computer.

I think I need to download an app or something that tells me when I've been on my computer too long. And it would need to keep track of time wasted vs. time working as well
