I know it's only 12:30 on Sunday but let's start anyway
Did you cook or bake anything good this weekend? Share your recipes/links below.
Re: Weekend cooking/baking?
We got some cauliflower from our CSA and I decided I wanted to make soup with it. I used Smitten Kitchen's recipe -- super easy and very good. I ended up adding a tiny bit of nutmeg and about a quarter cup of milk toward the end. Very good.
I also made those yeasted/raised pancakes again this morning. They are sooo good.
So far, I have brown rice in my new programmable crockpot!!
Making homemade teriyaki sauce for baked tofu later in the week.
Next up is lightened up chicken pot pie using puff pastry instead of pie crust
Tonight we will be making calzones with WW dough.
I am making a carrot cake from stratch for DH's birthday-which is on Friday so I will be making it on Thurs. night.
My dad was just visiting and we tend to cook a lot when he comes. I made some fantastic gingersnaps using big chunks of crystallized ginger yesterday. Earlier this week we made dolmas using real grape leaves he grew himself and brought for us, and a couple of other favorite Greek recipes. We had so many leftovers that I haven't had to cook dinner for a few days!
I just made my meal plan for the week and might as well include it too:
Bok choy w/crispy shallots (recipe here from our CSA) with tofu and brown rice
Chicken (not sure how yet) with leek, carrot and fennel risotto (recipe also from CSA)
Caldo verde (Portuguese sausage, kale and potato soup)
Minestrone
Garlicky crab pasta (got the idea here - TB)
...all will come with a side of dolmas since we still have a ton left
That's so cool! Is it a special kind of grape leaf?
I swear all we did was eat this weekend. Took some cinnamon raisin bread out of the freezer that I made a while back and have been toasting it with butter = yum.
Right now I'm making sm23's spicy autumn veggie burgers. Got some tatsoi at the farmers market that I'll have to do something with later.
That's pretty much it, but want to hear about everything I ate? We went to Chinese restaurant Friday that has a lot of vegetarian food and I had a fake chicken dish that was so-so. Today was Ethiopian food and it was so good! First time I've eaten with my fingers in a restaurant. Later I accompanied dh to Carrow's. He is head-over-heels in love with their chicken and wild rice soup and we keep trying to figure out what's in it so I can duplicate it at home.
Sorry it didn't work out... Totally off topic, but how are you feeling?? Looks like you're very close to your due date! All ready for those babies?
it was good, but not a "keeper" ya know? so sad =(
I'm feeling pretty good, better than I thought I would feel at least. I went into preterm labor before christmas and had to be on bedrest. Yesterday was my first day off, I feel so weak! So sweet of you to ask! ready or not...here they come
So exciting!
We made shephards pie last night and it's one of our new favorite recipes. Perfect on a cold night.
Is it vegetarian by chance? If so, I'd love the recipe

Not a vegetarian recipe. But we used locally raised, grass fed beef.
ok!
