Sorry- I know people get annoyed at baby questions on the Nest board.
We're taking a last minute trip to Provo,UT for a funeral this week and have a few questions:
1) what the hell do I do with E on a 10.5 hour drive?! (leaving at 3am-ish)
2) how do I dress her in cold climates?!
TIA!
Re: 2 baby questions
I dunno about the driving part, but dress her as you guys would dress. Do you have coats, hats, mittens, & stuff like that for her? You're gonna want to bundle her up, esp. her lil hands, head & good warm shoes for her. And bring lots of layers. Poor lil E is gonna freeze, since she's used to this warmer weather. Hopefully it's not too cold & blistery though.
She has a dress coat (a wool pea coat) and a couple beanies and 2 pairs of mittens. Does she need a scarf (do they make baby scarves?!)? She has several pairs of sweat pants/hoodies/fleece pants and jackets. She also has as a few thermal under shirts (my parents live in Prescott so she has a LIMITED "cold" weather wardrobe).
Also- Ergo under or over jacket?
Thanks guys!
I can't help much with 1... Bring lots of small toys with you, portable DVD player?
2) We just got back from Iowa. It wasn't too bad. A lot of layering. We put Ariadne in a long sleeved onesie under pretty much everything. Then a shirt or sweater and her peacoat for being outside. She wore her Gap jeans a lot because they are fleece lined. Take hats with you, and a pair of mittens if she has them. Don't worry about a scarf
I did take some warm snowsuits, but we didn't end up pulling them out. Too bulky.
Sounds like you'll prob. be ok then, unless you wanna get a "puffier" cold weather winter coat for cheap since u won't use it much. Maybe check out goodwill or something. I wouldn't worry about the scarf. And I'd think prob. the Ergo under your coat/jacket, but you'll have to see just how cold it is once u get there.
On the drive just take a couple new toys for her to play with and maybe a portable DVD player. Does she normailly sleep in the car?
As far your question for the Ergo, I wore zach under my jacket in Pine, it worked perfectly because I was able to zip it up around him and he stayed nice and warm where ever we went.
I am sorry for you loss, my thoughts and prayers are with your family.
For the drive I would bring some of her favorite toys and books and maybe some new ones to explore and bring them out slowly like 1 an hour or so. We also brought tons of snacks too mum mums and babyfood in case A needed to eat and there was no nearby food place. I usually sit in the back on longer drives (2+) hours) so if the toys dont work we,sing, play peek a boo, itsy bitsy, read books. If it is close to napping time i sit up front and he gets bored and falls asleep for a bit. We typically stop about every 2ish hours to get out and stretch, eat maybe.....just kinda depends and let A burn energy by crawling moving around a bit before we go again.
I agree with pp about clothing just wanted to add if you have tights or baby legs for under her clothes they will help keep her legs warm if shes wearing jeans. We do babylegs for A as baby thermals so his leg stay warm during diaper changes. Also I have worn my carrier both over and under my jacket. If I wear him in front then it goes under so A can be tucked in the jacket too if I wear him on my back then it goes on top of my jacket and I make sure he has his jacket, mittens and hat on.
Hope this helps a little, sorry for your loss. Hope the drive goes well! The babies usually travel better than we give them credit sometime. Just got to keep it interesting for them.
When I drove with Blake to CA, I bought several new "Sound" books and a few new toys (like a leap frog lap top toy), things that could fit on his lap. I would pull one out every hour or so to keep him interested. Can't help ya on the cold weather part
