We're adopting a Savannah!
I'm so excited! So is DH - he has wanted one for a few years now. We're getting a 5 year old third generation female that is owned by a breeder as part of her breeding program. Otherwise the kittens are $$$$. I never planned to get any cat from a breeder because to me a cat is a cat and I love them all. I've always found great companionship with cats I found on the street or adopted from a rescue organization. This is a rare opportunity to own a beautiful exotic, a cross between a domestic cat and an African Serval. And we're just really excited! Hopefully she'll make a good playmate for our other 6 yr old cat.

Congrats on your new addition!
I've always wondered about this Savannah business... can you help educate me? I see them as the equivalent of the wolf hybrid in the dog world, which is a bad idea, but I never see the same argument for the Savannah so I'm thinking perhaps it's a different situation?
Yes, I suppose that is a good analogy. Savannahs can be difficult to handle, especially the first generations. But based on what I know she is well behaved and socialized! She isn't a lap cat but apparently likes to walk on leashes - something common to this breed. We did a bit of research but haven't owned one so I can't speak from much personal experience. The breeder is holding her for us until we move back in to our permanent residence as we're presently in transition moving home from Ireland.
As with any cat a new cat requires some adjustment on every one's part. It'll take time and patience but hopefully everything will work out!
Thanks to everyone for sharing in our excitement!
I think one major difference is that Savannahs are recognized by one of the major cat fancies (registry) where as wolf hybrids are not recognized by the AKC or the UKC
