Morning Ladies!

There were some gtky questions in my intro post, just wanted to answer, I'd love to hear about you all too! Amy, I'm happy to be here, I wasn't sure if I would try this board or the SoCal board, then I saw some Fresno posters and figured I would like it here better:). Posting from my phone, so sorry for no breaks! I'm originally from Oklahoma, went to college in Kansas, and have lived in Colorado for the last 4 years until our move here in November. No kids yet, just my cutie fur baby corgi Oscar. DH is a manager for a large company, I'm a financial analyst at a small bank. I might not be around much during the day since I just started at this job and can only get on via phone, but I hope to post some in the evenings, weekends, and bank holidays:) I love to cook and am always excited for new healthier recipes:) Also, any weekend trips that are a must visit destination, I would love to hear about!

Re: Morning Ladies!

  • I grew up in KS! Judging by your avatar, KSU? I'm a Jayhawks fan, so I'm not sure we can really be friends here Stick out tongue Rock chalk Jayhawk, baby!

  • You got it:) But I think we can be friends, unless it's gameday. Our BFFs in Colorado were Jayhawks, nobody is perfect after all. Whereabouts are you from?

  • I'm originally from Pittsburg, KS and then I moved to a tiny village in Michigan. Now I live in Sunnyvale, CA :)

  • My grandpa is from KS and my dad lived there til he was 6. My grandma was from OK. They both came to CA during the Dust Bowl. I still have some relatives in KS so I've visited. Wknd trips from Fresno... obviously Yosemite (2 hrs away-too bad there's no snow in the mtns this season yet, also good in the summer for seeing the falls)  Sequoia Nat'l Forest redwoods (on the way to Yosemite) or Hume Lake is a nice relaxing mountain area 1.5 hrs away. Pismo Beach and Morro Bay are the closest beaches and where folks from the Valley usually go for a short getaway (2 hrs away). It's really not that far to go to the Bay Area or the Central Coast (Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo) either (3-4 hrs away). I can give specific recs for both the Bay Area and Santa Barbara if you want, too.
  • Day trips:

Well, obviously since you live fairly close, you HAVE to go to Yosemite. Try and stay there for a couple of nights if you can and really explore. Just promise you'll obey the safety signs on all the hikes/climbs. Too many people have died in Yosemite recently  :(

I've never been to San Luis Obispo but there probably is some fun stuff to do there. It's about 2 1/2 hours from you.

Santa Barbara is four hours away (not sure if that still counts as a day trip since you'd be spending eight hours in the car, and I think you should stay more than a day -- maybe a long weekend trip?) That's got beach, wine tasting, and some good food.

You're about three hours away from Carmel/Monterey. Again, you've got ocean (though it's too cold to bathe there, imo, even in the summer), golf if you're into that, good food, wine tasting, shopping, art galleries, the aquarium, Cannery Row, etc. Fun place.

Also three hours from you (and just up highway 1 from Monterey) is Santa Cruz. I went to school there and love that town. Super liberal/hippie. Great downtown with good food, interesting shops and great opportunities for people-watching, old movie theaters and my favorite bookstore on the planet. Also, my favorite hot chocolate on the planet is downtown. There's the boardwalk if you're into rides/games, the beach of course, and the forest/mountains for hiking. You can walk around the university too (UC Santa Cruz), and there's also some very good wine tasting up that way. If you ever decide to go visit, page me and I'll be happy to share more info. There are several other nesties who are familiar with SC too.

I think SF is technically three hours away too. Though, again, it would be good to have more than a day there!

    Have fun exploring!

  • Yeah, SJ is 3 hrs away, so points above that are more. Berkeley/Oakland and SF are 3.5. I guess I do think of Monterey and Santa Cruz as basically the Bay Area, but those are a little closer. Good to mention those. For Yosemite, you don't need to hike at all to see the falls. You can see it from the floor. It's obviously more dramatic to hike up to see them up close, but I've only done that once but have been to Yosemite several times. The Wawona is a nice place to eat a meal, have cocoa and just enjoy seeing nature around you while you relax. And it's more expensive to eat there, but you have to just walk around the historic Awanhee Hotel because it's pretty.
