When I was in HS, all the seniors had color photos in the alphabetical order photo section of the entire class (whereas the juniors and below had black and white, and the size of the photo decreased with seniors being almost wallet sized and freshman being thumbnails, practically).
All the guys wore tuxes in their senior portrait and all the girls wore these things that I can only describe as feather boas. They exposed the shoulders but no cleavage. All shots were headshots and most were head-on/slightly angled. The variation was mostly in the color of feathers the girls could wear, and I don't remember if guys could wear colored bow ties or not. Since they made me think of feather boas I thought of them as somewhat sexy and weird for a senior portrait so I'm curious what you guys wore.
Poll:
Did your HS yearbook require all males/females to wear something similar (to each other) for the photo? If so, what was it? If not, what did you wear in your senior portrait?
What year did you graduate (or range of years)?
Where did you graduate (i.e. Houston, Dallas, etc. or even district - Aldine, HISD, etc.)?
Public/private school?
Any other anecdotes you care to share about senior portraits "in your day?"
Re: S/O Poll re: Senior Portraits in the Yearbook
Boys wore the tuxes, girls wore the "drapes" (which is I think what you are talking about).

Some years, they did the tux/drape thing. My senior year, I decided we'd do the same back drop, but clothing choice was up to the student. I don't remember what I was wearing.

We had a similar getup with the senior pictures being in color/larger than underclassmen.
I remember having senior portraits taken at school, I think it was like regular school pictures but because we were seniors the guys wore a tux (at least the shirt/jacket/tie) and the girls wore a black velvet shawl kind of thing. It was a decent V neck, but not revealing or anything. We weren't required to use those for our yearbook pictures though. My picture in the yearbook was one of my professional pictures. But that was the default picture used if you didn't submit another picture in time, and I know some kids didn't have other professional senior pictures taken.
I graduated in 1997 from a public high school.
Boys wore tuxes with black bowties, girls wore black drapey things that was just a piece of cloth (BrideonJuly8 might be able to elaborate more if she reads this). Shoulders were pretty covered but it was a wide neckline and I think we slid our bra straps down so they weren't in the picture.
Graduated in '98 from Klein ISD.

We were required to do formal portraits for our Senior yearbook pictures, guys were in tuxes, ladies were in black drape gowns.

We did the tux and drape thing. We also did can and gown photos. I think we voted in the fall for which photos we wanted.

I don't recall any type of pomp and circumstance accompanying senior yearbook photos..I think a lot of people wore the class tshirt or a "senioritis" shirt and groups of friends might have made and worn the same shirts or gotten dressed up - but no requirements or provisions for fanciness by the school.
I don't remember if the seniors' pictures were a different size or printed full color or not, I didn't opt to get any of my high school yearbooks.
I graduated from Spring ISD in 2003
This was exactly the same for me and I graduated in 1993 from Klein ISD.
Our pictures were black and white and looked something similar to my mom's yearbook pictures.

So Tasty, So Yummy
We all wore whatever we wanted. Pics were generally taken at the little local photographer studio.
1991
Small town in Western Ma. Drury High School. Blue Devils, represent!
Very public
Big hair. Lots of big hair.
We had color pictures. We could wear whatever we want but we all had to go to one particular studio. Most of us had outdoor or outdoor-looking shots. I did take a drape picture but I didn't order it. There was no requirement that you order prints from this studio, so some had other pictures taken elsewhere. It was done this way to ensure some uniformity.

1992, but actually taken in Aug 1991. We could wear whatever we wanted and had to have them done at the school (just like regular school pictures).
Ghetto-y public school outside of Chicago. And like Viula-hair, lots and lots of hair.
Do I get bonus points since I actually HAVE the pic to post?? It was pre-eyebrow grooming!
I can find everything but my senior yearbook! I was going to post it if I could find it. I"m pretty sure I had a perm.
and bangs, but thankfully not big ones! I went to the artsy school, so the biggest hair was not as big as some of the other schools.
I included others for effect
Ours was the same: color for seniors, b&w for everyone else. Senior yearbook photos were cap and gown.
I graduated 2003 from Humble ISD.
Seniors wore tuxes/black drape with pearls. Color, big pictures taken at a nice photo studio.
Rest of the school were small b&w pics in regular street clothes ( regular school pics).
Graduated in 1997 from Pasadena ISD (public school).
We could wear what we wanted but our dresses or shirts had to have sleeves. It was also only a headshot.
Klein ISD 1997
We wore graduation gowns. Senior pics were bigger and in color.
I graduated in 1995, Pasadena ISD.
I just looked at my yearbook and realized there must have been a SERIOUS shortage of conditioner in Pasadena in 1995. I've never seen so much frizz!
Ditto this. It was an organized thing, done at the school by Provine Studios.I recall that I was simply wearing a wide vertical striped polo style shirt from Structure (when it was cool for girls to wear guy's clothes from there) because I'd forgotten that was the day we took the yearbook photos. LOL
we wore the black drape, guys wore the tux top. everyone had to go to a specific photography studio to have their yearbook pic taken... i did my senior portraits with them, but you didn't have to.
i am in the giant-bangs club as well. i mean, i needed to make my forehead look bigger, right?

Seniors were in color and other grades in black and white.
This exactly but in Spring Branch ISD.
I think we had to all take a generic picture, but I don't think we had any clothing requirements. That one was used or you could turn in a pic to "replace" that one. I assume it had to be approved, but most people did professional pics to replace it. I think my prof. pic I submitted was a headshot of me in a jean jacket vest thing with plaid accents (it had a plaid skirt to match - plaid was all the rage, then! lol). Oh, and of course bangs were requried (j/k).
1997, Smalltown USA (East TX) ( I graduated with 233 ppl), public
Sr. portraits were in color, other classes were b&w.
