Napoleon vs the foster kitty

Yes, I personified them a bit, but it's more fun that way.

Napoleon typically doesn't care for fosters. We get a look that is the feline equivalent of rolling his eyes when he realizes we have a new foster. (We actually got that look when Petey came home - "You got *another* dog? Geez.") It's Napoleon's house and we just live here. The dogs totally defer to him (this is hilarious), and Leo understands he's boss.

When we let the fosters out for playtime, Napoleon starts growling and mumbling, letting out a warning hiss when the fosters come to check him out. Then he retreats to a bedroom to groom himself and brainstorm more ways to trick us into feeding him more often.

Bianca's kittens were super annoying; they kept playing with his tail, messing up his fur. Bianca wasn't terrible, but Leo got all in a tizzy and was crazy about her, and this annoyed Napoleon to no end. Andy was too brazen in his attempts to enjoy the house, and Napoleon saw this as a threat. He hated Andy.

For some reason, Napoleon tolerates Mabel, our current foster. We don't know if it's because she's pretty, she leaves him alone, or because she can tackle Leo to the ground and hide before Leo can get his bearings straight. We were shocked when he voluntarily sat on the same piece of furniture where she was lounging.

All that changed this evening. Napoleon gets wet food for dinner. He loves all food, but especially his wet food. He usually eats his dinner in two parts with a 10-minute grooming session in the living room as a break. I incorrectly assumed he'd finished his dinner and let Mabel in to play while the dogs were enjoying a post-dinner nap in their crates.

I walked into the hall to find Napoleon sitting at the doorway of the cats' room. He turned and looked at me with an incredulous expression. I realized Mabel was snacking at his wet food. I scooped her up and nudged Napoleon with my foot to go finish his dinner. He started growling and mumbling and I knew Mabel had worn out her welcome.

Poor girl. She had a good run.

  • Poor Mabel! She didn't even know what she was getting into.  Maybe she figured hewas sharing? Lol

  • AAhahahaha!! The personalities of your pets just kill me!

Poor Mabel; that brazen hussy, how dare she touch Lord Napoleon's gushy food! Hahahaha.

Maybe he'll warm back up to her a bit the next time he witnesses her take-down-and-run of Leo.
