My foster is never getting adopted

And with all the "Free lab to good home!" ads on CL, why would anyone want to pay an adoption fee?

I am so frustrated.  I have hung flyers, passed out flyers, re-written his write up, taken new photos.  I reached out to the local lab rescue and asked them to do a courtesy posting for me.

I don't know what else to do.

Re: My foster is never getting adopted

  • Would the rescue use a transport service?  When we fostered for L4R we had a similar problem in that we were so far away from everyone that was interested.  It sucks, especially seeing just great apps coming through.  I'm sorry :(

  • We've been having the same problem with our foster, I completely understand how you feel. We've had potential adopters dropping like flies because "he's old." They don't even give his personality a chance to shine through.

I emailed several other dog contacts I had and asked them to forward his information on to all of their contacts. I know you tried that with the local lab rescue, but are there other venues you could try? Posting him at a vet's office?

  • I'm sorry for the foster dog that your area is like that :(. Around here lab dogs are gobbled up at the humane society! If the lab has no major issues they are usually adopted within the first couple weeks.

Are you capable of going outside your local rescue and maybe going a couple counties away?

His new write up and pix should be activated within 48 hours, I find that petfinder can be slow about that.

He is posted at: doggy daycare/kennel, 2 vet's offices, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, at our realtor's office, at a doctor's office, and I do a CL posting every 15 or so days, but I don't USUALLY get quality apps, but once I did, so it is worth a shot.

  • Thanks, are you in the Carolinas? Would he be able to get transported up here if necessary?

We are actually a Boston-based rescue, so you would think...but unless we can do some kind of pestie transport, I don't think so...

Plus we like to have people meet the dog first- and if there is another dog in the home, he should meet them because some dogs really hate Guinness for some reason.

  • Poor G. Sad He's so sweet looking! I hope something turns around for him soon.

  • With a face like that he absolutely will get adopted!  Maybe after the craziness of the holidays settle down people will actually be in a place to consider a pet.  In the meantime, he has a wonderful person looking after him, so I would consider him a lucky pup Big Smile

  • He is so handsome!  I pinned him to Pinterest - that's ok, right??
  • The local rescue has been letting us take Eddie to their adoption events and he met two nice people on Saturday (who haven't applied yet, but I digress).  Isn't your foster listed in NE?  A lot of people probably wouldn't drive that far to get him and would want to meet him beforehand, so I'd focus locally.  He will get adopted, I know it.  Even my BSC crazy FIV cat who hated people get adopted, they ALL get adopted eventually.

ETA:  we can pestie transport him, don't worry about that.  Or he can maybe go with Last Chance Resort, I bet they would post him and help transport for you, especially if they don't have to pay for vetting.

  • I thought that about our last foster - we had her for over 4 months and she got returned once during that time from an adopter.  She finally found her forever home right before the holidays so don't lose hope!  Someone is going to see that beautiful face and think "that's my dog!"  He sounds like an awesome family dog.  :)

I just got an application on him. It is really good, actually. Which is so random. I have to find out where they saw him!!!

Sorry I'm a little late on the reply. I hope this new app works out. In the meantime, I'll pass his info along. Keep us posted.
