Re: weekly book post

  • I finished Jinxed (as I posted about a few days ago) and started Seven Year Switch by Claire Cook. There was an excerpt at the end of The Wildwater Walking Club and it made me want to read it so I had ordered it.  Taking a break from the mysteries for right now.
  • I'm reading two books right now...one at home and one at school. At home, I'm still reading Knit the Season by Kate Jacobs. I'm really enjoying it, but I don't pick it up until I'm ready for bed, so I only end up reading like 5 pages before I fall asleep!

At school I am reading Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. I don't know how this one slipped by me growing up. My students actually recommended I read it :) I am really enjoying it so far. It is very honest, and it moves quickly.

Although I'm just getting around to reading this now, I've had it in my library for awhile. I purchased it after I read one of her latest, Wintergirls. I really enjoyed that one, too. Again, very honest. Both deal with mature topics, but they are both well written and handle the topics nicely.

  • I'm in the middle of Catching Fire (2nd in Hunger Games) and I don't want to put it down. which is really bad since I start a medical sub leave position tomorrow and I really don't have time to read. But I figure the official reading order for my grad class doesn't get posted until tomorrow, so maybe if I just avoid logging onto the class site until I finish this book....(of course, then I'll want to grab the 3rd one..grr!)

The other book I read this past week was To Sleep with the Angels: the Story of a Fire.  It was good, but very sad, about a fire that happened in a Catholic School in Chicago.  I also read another book with advice for teachers from middle schoolers, but it wasn't very good.

Yay for Catching Fire!  What is your new sub position?  Good luck!

I am reading The Bronze Horseman.  I am only 20 some pages into it, but I like it already.  I know there's a lot more to happen though.  I have heard the book it heart-wrenching, and I am not there yet!

  • I just started reading The Handmaid's Tale. So far it is really slow. It is one of those books that is constantly being recommended via Amazon, so I thought I would check it out. I am hoping it gets better!

  • I had been "reading" The Sugar Queen by Sarah Addison Allen for probably a month now.  I read the first couple chapters, and then could never bring myself to pick it back up.  I love all her other books, and I'm sure I will love this one too.  I don't know if I just wasn't in the mood for it or what.  I have been wanting to read, but just not wanting to read that book for some reason.  I decided to put it aside for now, and try something else.

I just started 11/22/63 by Stephen King.  I've never read anything by him before (actually I had no idea he wrote anything other than horror) and when I read about this book it really intrigued me.  I'm not very far into it, but I am really enjoying it.  If nothing else, it got me to pick up a book and want to read again, so for that I'm thankful!

  • I just finished "Little Earthquakes" by Jennifer Weiner which was a quick cute read about a group of new moms.  I really liked it.  Now I'm almost done with "Saving CeeCee Honeycutt" which was also a quick read and I am loving it too!  It was recommended for people who had loved "The Help" so I tried it and am very glad I did.  Still stuck in the middle of "The Marriage Plot," though.
