Please tell me I don't need another dog.
I don't, I don't, I really don't. I have my hands full with Booker. He's only six months, and he's entering The Land Of The Buttheads, and we have a long road ahead of us with training, and there's a lot I want to do with him. But I keep thinking that he'd love a big sister. So I keep window-shopping our local rescues and shelters, and I found this little girl. And I keep going back to look at her again, and again, and again...
I don't need another dog, I don't need another dog...
Re: Please tell me I don't need another dog.
Resist the urge!! Just read your other post to remind yourself how much more of a commitment that would be x2!!
However, I feel your pain! Its hard!! DH sends me links to dogs pretty much daily! Its gotten to the point now where I don't even open them! I have to delete them right away otherwise I see their faces & my heart melts & I start thinking "maybe".
To fill that "void" once a week DH & I volunteer @ a local foster home for dogs (transition from shelter to home environment). Its perfect! Of course, I want to take every dog home, but I get to snuggle w/them & take them for walks knowing that they have such a better life there then they do @ the shelter & they are much more likely to get adopted too (and have!)!
You're right, you're right, I know you're right.
But man, does she look sweet. And I think, she's 8, right? Past the puppy-crazies, does well with kids, maybe would be pretty low-maintenance...but then I read "border collie" and think, yeah, who am I kidding?
Haha! I read/see Border Collie, & I think "more work & energy than my GSP!" Lol!!
Oh, & just so you know, Im refusing to click on that link!!
Don't do it (ha! usually we're all telling people TO adopt!
) Anyway, between a young dog and kids (I'm assuming you have kids from your siggy
) that is a HANDFUL, I'm sure!
Some might tell you adding a second dog isn't a big change, but it is! You feed almost twice as much, play twice as much, there's twice as much poo, and if doggie #2 has any underlying health issues that's more on your platter (this is what happened to us).
JUST SAY NO, maybe we can find you a 12 step program
I second the volunteer idea. Personally, I would love to volunteer, but my allergies are bad enough where I get very sneezy and wheezy when i'm in a shelter for too long
DO IT!!
She's 8. Eight! She'll be easier and a senior dog... that will fill your good karma quota for quite a while! Do it!
Sorry, I'm no help
)
She's really cute.... That link is dangerous.
Maybe practice procrastination? Tell yourself you'll think about a sibling when Booker's no longer a teenager? Or even goal setting, "after Booker has learned x, y, and z, we'll consider a sibling."
You need my foster dog! lol
Why do you have to be in DENVER?!! Cripes.
That is where my mom adopted Zeus. She is cute that is for sure!
Quincy and Dexter, new BFFs
I used to be kris216.
Haha, this is my problem also! As I said, MH sends me links to about 5 dogs a week!
It was suuuuper hard awhile ago when the place we volunteer at got an older GSP, I was like "GAHHHH! We HAVE to have her!" & it didn't help that she was like, perfect !Beautiful & well behaved....A real keeper (yes, I know, HOW could someone get rid of a dog like that?!!!)! But, DH & I talked it over & decided that if she was still there after 6 months, we'd adopt her. & of course, she didn't last but a couple weeks before being snatched up, but still, I felt better about letting her go (meaning staying @ the place we volunteer & then ultimately not be heartbroken when/if she was adopted) knowing that we could take her if the time came.
Be strong!!!
