yowza..I'm so confused on what to pick.
One friend swears by the Angelcare movement one, but the Baby Bargains book gives it an F!
Then there are the video ones...
or of course, the good ol' fashion regular ones that we all grew up with and were just fine with.
HELP..what do you have? why? would you recommend it?
Re: Baby monitors...
Do you have 2 stories? If so, you definitely want something. I personally think sound only is fine unless you think you might be neurotic about wanting to peek in at the tiniest sound.
Personally, we haven't used one at all yet with Andy. He shares our room and we live in a one story house where it's easy to hear him from the other room.
I don't have an angelcare monitor but I must admit I kind of want one.

I'm glad you asked.. I'm going to see what everyone else says too!
While working on my registry the other day I put a video one on my registry and a regular sound one. I like the idea of the video one because if baby is sleeping in his/her crib the bedroom door isn't every quiet so I wouldn't have to go in to check on baby.

My Blog
We have the one below and we love it. It is just a sound one. Maggie never slept in our room b/c our rooms connect and there really isn't any space for a bassinet. I got this one for the distance it goes. In the summer we spend a large amount of time in our yard and I wanted to make sure we had something that would work out there.
I am not sure I would use a video one. I check on Mags once before I go to bed. Other than that I rely on the sound one to hear if she needs me. Angelcare one, we tossed around the idea of getting one b/c Mags has been a tummy sleeper since she was 2 weeks. We never ended up getting one though. When we have # 2 I may consider it.
We have two different monitors because we wanted both the Angel Care and a video monitor. I like the peace of mind that the Angel Care gives. I'm pretty sure the reason why it gets an "F" in the Baby Bargains is because it doesn't actually prevent SIDS, which I don't think anyone would expect it to. It is a great sound monitor and I love the added bonus of the movement detector. The annoying thing about this is that you have to turn off both the hand-set and the part in the babies room when you get up for night feedings, etc, otherwise the alarm will go off. We have had two false alarms. One I'm not sure what happened, the other was because Mackenzie was off to the side in her crib and wasn't on the pad properly. Regardless, I'll take a couple false alarms to know that it is going to warn me if she stops breathing.
We also got the Levana "Safe n See" video monitor. http://www.mylevana.com/product-display.php?id=109 I also like being able to "peek in" during nap times, etc to see if she is awake or asleep without her being able to see me. I also take this into the bathroom with me when I'm showering during her nap time so I can see if she wakes up at all. My sister said she really wished she had a video monitor once her daughter got a bit older so that she could see what shed as doing in her room when she was supposed to be napping. I don't know if I'd recommend this particular one. We had a few issues with it, they replaced it for us no questions asked which was nice, but it was a huge PITA. I've heard really good things about the Summer Infant one and would probably go that route instead.
If I could do it again, I might have just splurged for the video Angel Care to avoid having two monitors, kind of annoying. DH was skeptical though because they just starting making that one, so he didn't know if it would be any good.
Hope that helps!
I have the same one as Krissy it works fine. I do admit though there have been times I wish I had a video monitor and if I could do it again I would have registered for one and if I got it it got it if not I would probably only get a sound one
... Autocorrect keeps wanting to change Krissy to Krispy lol
LOL that was my parent's second choice.
Ever since the misspelling on facebook, everytime I see this I literally laugh for about 5 minutes!
That's exactly what happened to me on autocorrect on facebook..except I didn't catch it!
We have the angelcare one and I have never put the sensor in his crib. Obviously we wasted money on it and could of just gotten a plain sound one. We also used to have the same one as Krissy at my parents house. I didn't like it at all. It worked fine on the main floor but if we went in the basement at all it would completely lose reception. we bought a cheaper ($30) graco sound only one for their house now and really like it a lot.
Now I really want a video one. We are working on sleep training Eli and I would love to know what he was doing while he is in there screaming. Also if he has thrown his blanket out of his crib there is no hope he will settle down so I wish I could know if he still has it or not without going in. I think it will be really great when we switch him to a toddler bed also because I am positive he won't be staying in his bed.
We have the one Krissy (or Krispy) has. I liked it ok. We have a 2 story house with the bedrooms upstairs so if we went outside the monitor would beep because we were out of range. Which worked out ok because then I would get to go inside and not help!
I just bought a video one last week and I am in LOVE! It was the best purchase ever. I was paranoid that something would happen. I can't even count how many times I went in to check on him and ended up waking him up. It allows to me to know when I need to go in if he is fussy and when he is just trying to get comfy again. I would highly suggest a video one!
This is the one I got. I bought it on amazon because I have a gift card, but diapers.com has it a little cheaper. I got this one because it allows 2 way talking, the camera can scan side-to-side and up-and-down, and you can zoom in. It has a really clear picture too.
