Re: Any Soc. Workers or Psych's out there?

  • I'm an LPC, but I'm not sure what you are looking for with this question. Are you clinical or do you want a layman's perspective? If you are in the field, I'm sure you are familiar with the DSM as a diagnostic tool. If you work for an agency of some sort, they typically have standardized treatment plans, or insurance companies have certain criteria they need submitted in a treatment plan.

If you have a certain issue in mind and you are comfortable posting that, I (and many others here) will probably be able to help find a book on that.

I hope I'm not coming across as snarky, I really don't mean it that way, I'm just very confused and want to help. I spent my whole master's degree learning about "presenting issues," so I'm wondering if you are looking for something more specific.

  • I am an LMSW.

I specialize in sexual abuse treatment; but I'd like to find some new activities/techniques/etc. to use in treatment planning (victims, offenders, and parents) and just wondering if there are any good reads out there before I stalk my boss' office to see what she has on her shelf.

Oh, OK, that makes sense. I haven't worked with that population in a while, so anything I have to recommend wouldn't be the most up to date. Sounds like your boss' office is great place to start! That's tough work, be sure you are taking care of yourself as well.

  • I am an LCSW and a great book that is just straight forward symptoms/diagnoses --> treatment planning/interventions guide is titled "Therapist's Guide to Clinical Intervention: The 1-2-3s of Treatment Planning" by Sharon Johnson. About $20 off Amazon. Its somewhat basic but its still good for general treatment planning.

     Thanks; I'll check that out!
