Would you wait this out for a few days?

I have an 8yo doxie.

This morning when he went out, I saw some red swelling under his anus and a little on the top on his tail.

There is no signs of pain (yelping), and this seemed to have showed overnight.  He won't let me go near the area, but when I do touch it, he reacts.  He does tend to be flightly with the area though his whole life, due to the need to express his sacs every 2mo.

Would you wait it out to see if the swelling gets worse/improves before you take your dog to the vet?  I tend to jump to a vet same day instead of waiting it out.  Would you give it 2-3 days?

  • I would call the vet and ask their opinion, but also I really trust my vet and she doesn't have me come in unnecessarily so that helps.
