Hi Everyone!
DH and I are going to Baltimore for the weekend, visiting from NJ.Any recommendations for places to go, restaurants, etc?? I've done a lot of research, but I've always had the best luck with nestie recommendations. We're up for anything and everything - though we're foodies and love to eat!
As of right now, on the agenda is stopping at Boordy Winery on our way down Saturday. I heard good things about the winery, and they're having an event there this weekend. Saturday after check in we're up for suggestions, but want to go somewhere nice for crabs/crab cakes for dinner. Any recs??
Sunday is brunch at either Blue Moon Cafe or Miss Shirley's, then the aquarium.. then again, up for suggestions. I heard La Tasca is great for tapas and wine in the inner harbor, what do you think??
Any other recommendations would be very much appreciated. Thank you!
Re: Visiting Baltimore. Recs?
I responded to your post on the travel board but I'll add here -
Blue Moon will likely have a long wait and Miss Shirley's probably will as well but I think it tends to be faster than Blue Moon so might be a better option.
La Tasca is good and has a pretty view but for tapas and wine I'd hit up Pazo (better tapas, better wine selection, but not directly on the water).
Keep in mind Sunday will be absolutely crazy downtown bc of the Ravens game....crazy, but fun :-)
Where are you staying...?
Boordy is in Baltimore County, I can reccommend 2 good places to get crabcakes, either Skipjacks http://www.skipjackscrabhouse.com/ordereze/1000/Page.aspx
or Pappas http://www.pappascrabcakes.com/Main/index.asp
but I warn they are both very neighborhoody, like as a tourist, the places themselves aren't going to impress you but the food is very good. Another good place and pretty much on your way to/from Boordy is http://www.bowmanrestaurant.com/ which is a little bit pricey (probably not compared to NJ)
I actually think Powerplant live is an awesome place, they have the club scene but also neat bars as well. Fells point is a nice stroll (take the charm city circulator there) and I've been hearing good things about the Thames Street Oyster house, although I haven't been there myself.
Hope you have fun here! You may want to avoid the Harbor for eating on game day, though!
La Tasca/Pazo for tapas
Cinghiale has great Italian, they have wine flights. Really nice area right by the water. Lebanese Taverna is right by there also and is delicious.
Miss Shirley's is always good. The Roland Park location is my fave.
The Dogwood in Hampden uses a lot of local foods (Woodberry Kitchen does too, but you'll be out of luck for a res this weekend).
Is Pazo in the inner harbor area?
We're staying at the Mount Vernon Hotel. I feel like its in the Fells Point area? Maybe not...
Pazo is in Harbor East. It's a 10 minute walk from the Inner Harbor. The Inner Harbor itself is pretty and tourist-y and fun to walk around, but it's mostly chain restaurants.
Mount Vernon Hotel is in the Mount Vernon neighborhood. Restaurants that are good in that area - Ban Thai on Charles, Sashas 527 also on Charles St., Brewer's Art (fancier upstairs, fantastic bar downstairs) on Charles Street but a few blocks farther north, and XS for sushi also on, um, Charles Street. LOL. Tio Pepe is a Spanish restaurant fairly close to where you are staying but it's kind of $$.
but like I mentioned to you on the travel board - these neighborhoods aren't really that far away from each other. You can get from Federal Hill to Canton (opposite sides of the harbor) in 10, 15 minutes maybe with no traffic. Every restaurant people have mentioned is within the same 20 minute radius. Baltimore is a fairly small city if you are talking about the main downtown areas.
Thank you all so much!! You are awesome
