Feliway & Biting?

Sherlock has been bitey for the last few days and it doesn't seem to be getting any better. Where he's normally sweet, calm, and loves to be pet, now he's biting and a little skittish. He'll still be sweet but not as much as "normal".

Is Feliway worth trying for this or is that not the kind of thing it's useful for?

Re: Feliway & Biting?

  • Is he still grumpy from his medicine? Wasn't he the one taking the meds and acting funny after?

  • It's probably partly the medicine and the stress of being poked at the vet, but yes, Feliway could help.

  • Have you determined yet if his bitey/"leave-me-the-f-alone" periods are mostly occurring as a result of his meds? If it's that, they should clear up when he's finished taking the meds.

Feliway takes up to a month to be fully effective, so a plug-in wouldn't really help you there; I think the spray has more immediate effectiveness, but you've got to be diligent about spraying areas he tends to hang out in the most. Some Rescue Remedy drops in his water might help more quickly, too.

  • Yes he was getting weird after being on the meds, but now I'm not so sure if I can attribute it to that. The day he started being weird and bitey he was still on the antibiotics (but was fine the rest of the time on it) and he still is bitey now that he's on the parasite medication.
  • I have a feeling he's bitey because he feels like crap. It might be worth calling your vet to talk about his recent behavior. Maybe they have seen this before? I think Feliway can't hurt though so it's worth a try.

  • I called the vet and left a message, she'll call me back later today.

Thanks for the good advice as always.
