Got some interest in my foster :)

I am nervous because I don't know if it is a good match, but we're planning to meet up this weekend. They are essentially new dog owners and weren't planning to crate train. I know not every dog needs to be crate trained, but my foster isn't housebroken yet, so I don't know how that will work exactly. I'm a little skeptical, but trying to keep an open mind and stay positive. I'll just have to see how the meeting goes. He is on petfinder now so I decided to put a link in my siggy for a little extra exposure (just in case it helps).

Re: Got some interest in my foster :)

  • I was one who didn't "get" crate training until it was properly explained to me, so hopefully you can just educate them and they'll understand the benefits?

    Good luck!

  • Good luck!  People constantly surprise me and some of my best placements have been ones I was "eh" about on paper.

  • Ditto MR that maybe they just need crate training explained to them. I had no clue it was a great thing until I started researching before looking for pup/bringing Zoey home. :)

  • Why don't they want to crate? Are they aware that he's not fully potty trained? Do they have another plan to house break him?
Your foster is such a babe. I knew it wouldn't be long before he's scooped up. I hope it works out!

  • I hope the right thing works out for him!  But I'm not going to lie, this makes me a little sad...lol.  Maybe if it doesn't work out it will be the push DH needs to apply for him!  :)

I would obviously be thrilled if you guys could adopt him. Even if it works out with this prospective adopter I think it will probably take some time for the reference check and home visit.

I did talk to her about why I think crate training will be helpful and I'm waiting to hear back. She seems nice, but young. This will be her first pet as an adult. I'm hoping to point her in the right direction with some training tips which I think will be helpful for her regardless of which dog she ends up with. I'm just hoping she completes the formal application so we can really make sure this is a good fit before driving down to meet her. (She lives a few hours away from me)

It sounds like she might be open to your suggestions then. Maybe, since she's never had a dog as an adult, the only way she knows is what her parents did. And we all know how out-of-date some of our parents views can be.
