We are adopting a teenage girl, and her sweet 16 is coming up.

She has had a difficult life in the foster care system, and since she is still living in a group home, even our sweet 16 party options are going to be somewhat limited. We'd like to at least get her a great birthday cake, but the bakery we got our wedding cake from as part of our catering package with Amici's seems kind of steep. Does anyone have any reasonably priced bakers in the Tampa area they would recommend? She really wants a topsy-turvy cake, and we're looking at 30-40 guests. Thanks so much!

I believe this is her. I have her on my FB but can't get on FB here. She has a FB page for it too, if you search. Mindy Hatfield is her name. She is great!!!
Ditto all this!
I got my DD a topsy-turvy cake from Publix a few years ago. I'm not sure if they still make it, but, it was amazing and tasted great! It was 3 tiers, and had a birthday gift on the top. Instead of the gift you could get a tiara. I think it would feed 35-40 people. Just another option.
You are amazing for adopting a teenager!
All I can rec is Mindy. She is such a nice person and a great cake designer that I am sure you will be happy if you go with her.
Oh, and like all the others said......you are awesome for adopting a teenager! Like really awesome! Adoption is something my H and I are *kind of* considering but when and if we ever do it will be much further down the road.
GL to you

Mindy has done 2 cakes for me in the past year.. she did a shoebox with a high heel shoe on it for a bridal shower I was doing, and she did a UF gator cake for my husband's 30th bday. Both cakes were great. I really liked the amaretto flavored cake we got for the shower. They were reasonably priced as well.
If you just want to price out other options or taste other things, I suggest the Publix Greenwise in South Tampa (I'm not sure where you are located), All About Sweets which is in St. Pete, or A Piece of Cake on Memorial. I've had all and they are good.
Oh btw I also wanted to say congrats on adopted a teenage girl, that is amazing. I hope to do this one day in the future.. it has always been a dream of mine to adopt and I'm leaning towards an older child or teenager. It might not be for awhile but it's one of the things I want to do at some point in my life.
I teach at a high school in TC/Westchase area and we have a ton of students who live at the Children's Home. I've taught a few and many of them are waiting for a "forever family", and it just breaks my heart because being a teen is hard enough as it is, and to be hoping to be adopted before you are 18 is so stressful.
Does she go to a high school in the TC area that starts with an A.....?
