S/o Seattle humor post - non clicky poll

Do you love it here? Like it here? Just here because you have to be? Would you live anywhere else?

Re: S/o Seattle humor post - non clicky poll

  • I believe I am in the minority on this board, because I don't love it here. Neither does H. We have been plotting our escape for a few months now...but it takes money to escape, so we have to suck it up for the time being.

We just want to live somewhere that is relatively warm all year long. We are greedy with our sunshine needs I guess.

  • I used to really hate it here. There are things about living here that I still don't like, but there is now a lot that I do like.

Ignoring the very important "my friends are here" thing, I would move to a handful of places ... Chicago, Norcal, New England, maybe NYC or the DC area. I'm pretty sure I'd overall be happier in Norcal and New England.

  • I like it here and plan on living here forever.

But if I had a choice? And I hadn't had a boyfriend (who I eventually married) who lived in Vancouver? I would be living in NYC right now. Or Boston. I'm an eastern seaboard gal at heart.

  • I love it here.  I lived on the east coast for 3 years and it was an amazing experience, but I always longed for Seattle...living away makes your realize how green and blue it is here, so beautiful in ever direction.  And I prefer the people, laid-back west coast vibe.

I do sometimes get sick of the weather and long for California or Hawaii, but I think I'd get sick of it after a while and I'd miss all my friends and fam here.  Ideally, like if we won the lotto, we'd have a house here, one somewhere warm like Hawaii, something near DC and travel all the time.  But, sadly, we have not won the lotto.  So, if I have to pick one place to live, it'd be here.

  • I'm very happy where we are and love where we live. I do wish we had started improving our public transport years ago though! As long as I get a sunny vacation here and there the weather doesn't bother me that much.

I love traveling and seeing other places but it would be tough to leave here. I keep telling DH he should find a job abroad for a year and we should do that but I don't think I would settle anywhere else permanently. I always wanted to live in NYC when I was younger.

  • i love it so-so-so much here. if i could, i'd marry it. (i got as close as i could by having our wedding at the seattle-center!)

  • I'm happy here. Obviously I'm not from here and we have no ties to here. We know we won't be here forever, but we've discussed it as a place we'd return to long term.

  • I only lived there for awhile before I needed to get out.

I miss: how close you are to the coast, having the sound for quick beach fixes, all of the outdoorsy hiking available, the zoo, a million drive thru starbucks

I do not miss: the traffic, people EVERYWHERE, how long it take you to get anywhere, crime, bad drivers

If I had to move back I would but I do love having my crazy in laws as a reason to visit frequently.

OMG. I totally didn't even think about the weather. When I lived there I worked retail (yay for a sucky job!) and customers would complain CONSTANTLY about the weather. If it was raining it rained too much, if it was cloudy it should have been sunny, if it was sunny I'd have some old lady tell me "I moved here because it was not suppose to ever get above 75", if it snowed...oh lord help us all...haha

  • I was born and grew up in Western Washington, and I have never lived anywhere else.  I don't think I would like living anywhere else, because no where else would feel like home.

  • It's home and I love it here. I did live in northern CA for a couple years, but grew up in the Seattle area and hurried back after living somewhere else was out of my system.

H is a CA transplant but he says he loves it here and prefers it to CA. We plan on living here long term. We'd be down for moving to another city for a while, but I think we'd end up back here eventually.

I do love it here, and i'm sure i would come back if i ever left, but i would love to live other places (NYC, central Arizona -- if not for the politics, Austria/Switzerland/France).

  • I'm a lifelong Seattleite and absolutely love it here. I can only imagine living in a couple other areas in the U.S. and being as happy, but it would generally require sacrificing something (e.g., San Francisco would be great, but cost of living is insane). I love our geography, climate, political leanings, environmental conscientiousness, technological savvy... I dislike very few things about our area, and none that would be improved by living elsewhere.

I hate when people complain about living here, especially if they moved from somewhere else. I know a couple people like this, and it's hard to resist telling them to move back where they came from if they hate it here so much.

  • I moved here from California.

I love how green it is, the water, and the mountains. I love our super long days in the summers. I love that I can sometimes walk around in my yoga pants without being judged :p. I like the people, we have some great restaurants and bars, and I love all of the neighborhoods. I LOVE our coffee :). It's also super affordable, and I love that DH and I will likely be able to buy a single family home in the city in a few years.

I miss/don't like: Sunshine and the beach. Going to school in LA was amazing. I loved being able to go running along the beach, or just hanging out in Malibu or Santa Monica on the weekends. The fashion. The shopping here is just mediocre. I do love Nordie's, but I miss awesome boutiques, I miss people being into fashion, I miss everyone dressing up to go out.

I don't miss: People constantly judging you. Not having seasons. Not being able to wear cute fall clothes. The ridiculous housing prices.

I would consider living in New York, but DH would never go for it. We've talked about moving to San Francisco (about 45 minutes from where I grew up), but would need to basically double our salaries to make it worth it. We would also live in London, and I'd live in Munich, but DH doesn't know how he'd feel about that since I speak German and he doesn't. Europe would have to be the right career opportunity though.

  • I would never leave here. When i was a teen, I always said how much I hated Seattle, I complained about the weather, the people, and our failing sports teams. :P My dad said, one day you will love this place. And he was right! I think it was the angsty teen being a snot, but I grew up and this place is gorgeous. I don't care for rain but I know it's what makes this place beautiful. And having mountains and the coast that are just a short car ride away makes it even more awesome. I would love vacation homes in other places, for the Jan- early March months, but otherwise, I'm good. :)
  • wow emyinpink, I don't think it's affordable here at all. Maybe compared to Cali... but not compared to where I'm from.

I don't love it here at all and wouldn't stay if we didn't have anchors right now. I don't like the weather and I cannot stand the politics. Dh and I will likely at the very least move out of King County at some point.

yea, my sense is completely screwed, coming from basically insanely high cost of living. in college, I paid $700 to share a room in an uber crappy 2 bedroom apartment. my friends are paying $3k+ at least for rent in SF. we're one of the only ones of our college friends to own a house, including all of our computer science friends.

I moved to Snohomish County over a year ago and yeah, the politics up here are so much better! I hear my mom and dad, who live in King, complain about taxes and new things coming their way. Don't have that up here in SnoCo! Join us!!

Yes!  I live in SnoCo now, and I enjoy it so much more than when I lived in King.  Actually, one of the parameters for our house hunt is "not in King County" lol.

I just like it here.  I have been in WA my whole life, but there are a lot of places I daydream about living.  I think I would miss it here though...I love the mountains EVERYWHERE and the lakes and trees and whatnot.  I also like that we have seasons, but those seasons are typically pretty mild.  I mean, we don't (usually) have white out blizzards or tornadoes or weeks of 100+ degrees.  H and I talk about moving to somewhere a little less urban as our next house. If something happened where I could live out in the country of England or Scotland or Ireland though, I'd be there in a heartbeat :)

  • I love it here! DH has been here all his life and I know he wouldn't want to live anywhere else. I think I'd be happy staying here for a long time.

  • Honestly - and please don't flame me! - I love it here, but the weather takes a huge toll on me (SAD). If there was a lot more sun, and if my family were closer, I'd never wish to be anywhere else. But, as is, I plan to move to some exotic place and become a sun worshiper. I'm here for a few more years, anyway. Smile

Wow.... really? Let's just tell everyone to go back to where they came from if they have any complaints? That's pretty open-minded of you.
