rookie mom question

I haven't tried to put the car seat on a Publix shopping cart yet, but H did and he said it is not safe and ended up carrying her in the carseat through the store.  I can't carry her car seat and groceries.  Does anyone else have a problem fitting their car seat on the cart?

Re: rookie mom question

  • The car seat I had was too big for the top part of the shopping cart, so I had to put Macy in the bottom part of the cart and stack the groceries around her.  Sometimes I would bring one of those front backpack thingys to carry her around with, which was nice.

Do you have one of those backpack things?  If not I highly suggest getting one :)

  • I have a bjorn but it says 8 lbs and I don't think she's that weight yet. Close but maybe not quite. I have a moby wrap but I'm nervous to do it alone for my first time. I think I'll put her inside the cart like you said just while I'm getting used to being the two of us.

  • Its actually not safe to put the car seat on top of the shopping cart, all it takes it for one person to bump into it and the car seat would go flying (not likely, but still unsafe). Which car seat did you buy? I know Chicco purposefully made their car seats so that they will not fit up there.

We always put Lila in the actual basket which left very little room for groceries so we would do our big shopping together with the stroller.

We did this as well, but I didn't use the backpack thing; MacKenzie never liked them.  I tried to plan shopping trips with DH or alone while DH watched her.  Made life much easier and I got a break.

  • It's really not safe to put those seats on top of the carts; I'd recommend putting her seat in the main basket part of the cart. Better safe than sorry!

  • Yeah, I learned recently that it is not safe to put the seat on the top like that.  apparently, a mom went over a bump in the parking lot with it like that and the seat went flying off and the baby was injured or killed.

we will prob just go together once we have the baby.  Isaiah is now in the stages where he wants to walk if there isn't a "cool" shopping cart with a toy car on the front for him to play in.  Many times tho, I will go by myself and it is nice to have that break :-)

  • Even now, every now and again I will take Lila into the store in her stroller and just put the groceries in the bottom basket.

  • Thanks ladies!  In the main basket it is.  I don't need to do a major shop, just a few things, so I can just use the front for groceries.  OK I've got this :)
