wedding question - announcing wedding party at reception

DH is the best man in his cousin's wedding next month. I'm not in the wedding party. The bride just e-mailed the wedding party (and me) a list of how we will be announced at the reception to make sure it's okay. Yes, they are introducing us as "Nicole and David H." Even though I'm not in the wedding party........... Then she goes on to say there will be seats for all of us with our spouses/fiances at the head table. Which makes sense. But I can't wrap my head around why I am being introduced... is this normal?

ETA: there is a bridesmaid who's SO/Fiance person is being introduced as well, though I'm 90% sure the SO is not in the wedding party either.

ETA2: all the other wedding party members either their spouse is also in the party (so they are being introduced together) or they are a brother-sister pair.

I'm just so confused!

Re: wedding question - announcing wedding party at reception

  • I've never heard of it being done this way.  Maybe she feels bad that she didn't include you in the wedding and is trying to make up for it so late in the game.

  • I feel like I've been to a couple weddings where someone was introduced with a spouse who had not been in the wedding party.  I think it's nice she arranged to have you sit at the head table and include you.  I don't think it's typical, but I don't think it's totally uncommon either.

  • Maybe she got a complaint from one of the wedding party about their spouse having to sit by themselves and this is their compromise? Or maybe they just decided it might be nice to do... I've never heard of that being done before, but I think it's considerate of them

  • Just to clarify, I'm all about getting to sit at the head table with David, but I don't understand why I'm being introduced. If anything shouldn't it be "the best man, David and his wife Nicole"? Maybe that's how it will be anyway. Whatever, I should stop stressing about it. I just didn't want to draw attention to myself! blah

  • I agree, it's a little odd to be introduced, but I guess it's whatever floats their boat. Sitting at the head table though sounds pretty standard.

  • Definitely a little strange, but she's probably trying to be polite.

That sounds like the way I've heard it before.  Maybe she has some reason for her wording or just didn't really think about it much.

  • Are you walking in with the wedding party? I have heard "groomsman so and so accompanied by so and so."

No idea, she didn't specify. She just had us listed as "Nicole and David H."
