I'm a mixed bag of emotions

Went in for my NST today and the Dr. informed me that she will be delivering the babies next Friday.  I have both Pre E and Cholestasis and it's too dangerous for the babies to stay in past 36 weeks.

I feel like my body failed the twins and I'm am frustrated.  Hopefully they will be strong enough not to have to be transferred to another hospital after birth.  I'm excited to meet them but they really should have stayed in until 37 weeks.

ugh.

Re: I'm a mixed bag of emotions

  • There is so much GOOD that will come from this early delivery. I understand feeling like your body failed, but honestly, do anyone make it full term with twins?? You rocked it!

  • Don't think that way!  Your body did not fail you.  You have done great!

  • Oh Dawg, I'm sorry you're feeling bad.  I felt like a failure for the things my body did during pregnancy too. The mom guilt likes to rear it's ugly head early and often. You're doing everything you need to be, so try to let it go.

And if you do end up down here after they're born, let me know if you need anything and I'll come by with it. I'm pretty sure no one will still be sick to puke on you.

  • 36 weeks is great for twins.  As long as they are born and thrive, your body did exactly as it was supposed to. I had pre-e (pp), but at the end of the day that doesn't even matter.
  • aw, you did great!  don't get down on yourself, there will be plenty of time for that over the next 18 or so years.  I'm excited for you.

  • you did a great job! twins are always clamoring for the exit. little stinkers. don't take it personally!

  • Dude, you have done an amazing job with those twins and you know it. You told me when I saw you that they were both big and strong according to the doctor. And when things with your body starting taking a turn a few weeks ago, you went against everything within your human nature and sat there on bed rest, even with all the work stuff and Tony's surgery. They will be proud to have such a great mom!

And I am excited to "meet" the girls!

  • You have not failed any one or any thing. That's nonsense.  The doctors will do what's best for the babies, and you'll have that much more time to enjoy them on the outside.
  • Aww, I can only imagine the mixed feelings you're experiencing. I will say that of my friends with twins, none were allowed to go to 37 weeks, so you are in good company.

  • Cheer up, little gipper!  Your babies are going to be here soon!  By "next Friday", does that mean the 13th or the 20th?  Because it'd be super awesome if they could be born on Friday the 13th.

  • Thanks everybody.  Now I just need to suck it up and enjoy my last week with just the puppies, cats, koi and Tony.  I'll never have this time back.

winger, can I have you be my informant?  I will text you before I go into surgery and once the girls are here.

  • There is not a thing that you could have done differently. Don't beat yourself up. You have 18 years to let the mom guilt really settle in.

You're about to have outside babies. That's exciting.

    The 20th.  Aquarius babies!

  • You should be proud of yourself, you did everything you were supposed to. I imagine it is a scrary time but 36 weeks for twins is great. Good luck next Friday!
  • Aw, Dawg, you did everything right.  You body's not failing you or the babies, it's just their time.  And they will do great!  36 weeks isn't too soon, in fact it's the average length pregnancy for twins.  I have no doubt you will all come through this with flying colors.

I can't wait to hear about your sweet babies!

  • Your daughters need a healthy mother to care for them, so it sounds like this is the best plan for all 3 of you.  You have done splendidly.  Babies!  Babies in 8 days!
    image
  • Unless you went to a boy band concert on bed rest, that's bunk. 36 weeks is great for twins. T&P for an easy birth for you all.

  • I just want to point out that dawg will be 32 weeks when the babies are born.

I still think that is great.

I just am seeing a lot of 36 week comments.

??? Her ticker indicates she's almost 35 weeks now and her post says "past 36 weeks"

  • Wait a second. I swear to christ that her ticker said 30 weeks and 3 days.
  • Ditto everyone else about your body not failing you.  You've done such a good job keeping those girls safe that they're ready to be outside babies.  Plus, when you think about it, I'd probably be ready to make my debut by now if I were them.  They're probably throwing bows left and right in there and it can't be comfortable at all.

Word.  Keeping two babies in for 36 weeks is not any kind of failure.

  • You've done so well and you couldn't have done anything better. YOu have to repeat this mantra 100 x a day, even when they're here. You just rest up, and get ready for the most intense love possible and a whole lot of joy. The mixture of post partum hormones and sleeplessness will be tough enough without all the self-doubt. be kind to yourself. Just keep imagining those perfect little faces. And don't cry if they are hairy. THat hair falls out. Just sayin. ;)

You have done a great job!   That's a great gestation for twins, isn't it?

It's true about the hairy babies, too

  • I assume babies born into the icy tundra of the north in Canada need all that hair.

Sheesh, some kind of labor buddy you are.  You'll probably tell us that her two boys have arrived.
