Alright so I'm a little tiny bit less pissed than I was yesterday, but still upset over the whole thing. Thank you all for posting and giving me ideas on what to say. I'm glad I didn't keep my mouth shut, and if some of you are remotely interested, here is our conversation via fb msg yesterday. I think I was pretty tactful and got the point across.
Me: Hey! Just saw the post your dog is having pups. That's crazy, I don't know if I could handle having to deal with 7 new puppies like that!! Anywho... I just wanted to offer if you don't sell them all, my shelter takes dogs all the time and weaning puppies, we make sure all animals go to good homes.
Her: We weren't planning on breeding them, but (boyfriend's) mom wasn't watching them one day and they mated. Yeah, its going to be crazy having so many dogs at once. He has experience with breeding though, so hopefully everything goes smoothly. We are going to try to get all of them sold to friends and people we know will give them good homes, but if for some reason we can't, I will definitely keep that in mind! Thank you!
Me: Ok well just let me know! And hopefully what I say doesn't come across as rude, and I'm sorry if it does, but as a shelter volunteer, it's hard to hear about people breeding dogs when so many dogs, especially pitbulls, come into the shelter because they can't find good homes.
As a pitbull owner, I'm sure you're aware of the stigma involved with the breed, and although I'm sure you don't believe it as a pit owner, (obviously, as a pitbull owner myself, neither do I) , if you walk through any shelter, you'll see how many people just give up their pitbulls because they don't provide the proper training for them. So to hear about more pits being bred, it's just hard to swallow.
In the future, if you're interested as well, my shelter actually does offer what they call a low cost spay and neuter gift certificate- basically, it's a gift certificate you purchase through my shelter, but it is good for a spay or neuter from a local vet (I think there are like 6 on the list) at a cheaper price than what you would normally pay for at the vet because my shelter offers to pay for some of it. If that makes sense. Ok, good luck and I hope for a happy, healthy pregnancy and 7 healthy pups!
Her: No, I totally get it and actually agree completely! My mom and I volunteered at a shelter as well and I know exactly what you mean. Every dog I have ever had has been spayed or neutered, but (boyfriend) has bred pits before and wouldn't let it happen. Regardless of what he says, I'm having both of them fixed after she is completely recovered from the pregnancy.
So overall... I don't believe her 'accidentally mated' story if her bf has bred pits before. BUT- at least she wasn't combative, and seems to have her head on right when it comes to the future of her dogs. Now if she could just have her head on right about this boyfriend of hers who definately needs a good swift kick in the butt... I suggested she withhold sex until he agrees to spay/neuter both dogs.
Re: Update on FB 'backyard breeder' friend-
Agreed. Not buying it one bit, but at least she seemed receptive.

Not to be the b!tch of the day, but 'accidental'? Ummm, you have two mature animals of the opposite sex that haven't been spayed/neutered.... pregnancy's not really an 'accident', kinda the natural order of things, animals being animals. Sigh
Anyway, glad she plans to have her dogs spayed/neutered!
