My dog might be partially deaf
Does anybody know of any tests to see if your dog has hearing problems? I want to try a few things at home before I make a vet appointment. We have a 2 year old golden retriever mix we adopted a couple months ago, and we can't figure out if her ignoring us is a product of her history or if she just can't hear us. We know that she didn't come from an abusive situation prior to being in the shelter, so I don't think that would be the problem. But she doesn't seem to know her own name. We try saying it at varying tones/pitches/volumes but she doesn't even turn her head. If she's almost 2, she should know that we're talking to her by now. She gets excited about treats but only when she sees you reaching into the cupboard to get one. She seems to respond to certain sounds but not others... I'm worried because we take such good care of her and it makes me nervous that this might be out of my control...
