Toddler moms - sleeping/bed question

DD has been in her toddler bed for over about a year and a half and for the last month she has been wanting to sleep on the floor most nights.  She has been fighting bedtime more and more and I think most of it is to keep us in the room longer. She asks to lay with us and sing songs/talk for a bit and she can't lay next to us in her bed.  I don't want her sleeping on the floor all of the time and am wondering if maybe we should just convert her bed into the full size bed and put on the side rails? Then we can lay in her bed with her when we need to...but at almost 3 is she too young for a regular bed?

Re: Toddler moms - sleeping/bed question

  • My daughter was about 2.5 when we moved her into a full sized bed.  (because her toddler bed broke a couple of months after we converted it).   As long as they have the rails, I don't think it makes a difference.

And as I climbed into bed with her this morning to snuggle I was thinking about how nice it was that I could do that.   So I say, go for it!

  • My kids pretty much skipped the toddler bed phase (I did convert the crib since it converted, but barely used it in toddler bed mode). Julia was in it briefly, then we got her a twin bed to free up the crib for Emma. Emma had the toddler bed, but from the night we converted from crib to toddler bed she slept on Julia's twin with her anyway (still does). We never did rails and Julia fell out 2-3x total, Emma has never once fallen out and has been in a bed for a year. I definitely don't think 3 is too young.

They sleep in the same bed?  That's adorable!  That made my uterus hurt.  I need another baby so they can do cute things like that together.

  • I don't really understand the need for a toddler bed, unless you are just lacking room.  We converted Abby's crib to the full bed.  We will sometimes lay in it with her.
